Want to know how badly we need rain? Even with cover crop and no till, we couldn’t find moisture until we were about a foot down. 😞

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming students interested in Agriculture from over 30 different schools located around the Wiregrass. They were able to tour our station and learn what it is that we do here, along with meeting with vendors to explain what their professions are all about. Events like this take lots of time and planning from multiple different groups, and we are thankful to be a part of it all! These kids are the future of our industry.

This Friday!

If you have visited our station anytime within the last 11 years, you have probably had the pleasure of being greeted by the sweetest brown curly dog that there ever was.

Ladybird technically belonged to the Parker family, and was completely devoted to Chris, but he was nice enough to share her with everyone else.

She spent her days greeting guests, and getting loved on by everyone who worked here. She snuck in any door (vehicle or building) that was left open for too long, and didn’t leave until she was given a few treats.

She enjoyed sausage biscuits from Hardee’s and the occasional snack sized order of fried livers from the Sunstop. (Thanks to her bestie Mr. Rickey Hudson.)

We will miss her terribly but we are so thankful to have been able to be her extended family for so long.

Rest in Peace Sweet Ladybird! You were loved by so many!

Our Associate Director, Chris Parker had the opportunity to meet with the Ozark Rotary Club today and tell the story of how we do research to make Alabama farms better. We appreciate the work this group does for their community.

It’s a busy day when Dr. Virk and his crew come down. We are harvesting a defoliation study comparing a ground sprayer versus a drone, and we are also finishing up a drone-seeded cover crops study today.
