The views expressed in this and all posts on this site, are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions of the Hazlet Township Board of Education as an entity or other Board Members as individuals.
I can’t believe it’s been three years already! I thank everyone for their support for the first term and hope you’ll support me again in my second run.
What I’ve learned in my first term:
It’s not as simple as everyone thinks.
It’s frustrating how much the State has power over our schools. This includes our budget and how much the State will fund versus what the taxpayers fund. So please pay attention to who is running for Governor, do your homework on their positions and vote!
There is a lot to understand about special education - and it deserves our full attention.
These families stole my heart. And many times they are the children without a voice of their own. I’m learning, but there is so much more to understand. If elected again this will be a main priority for me.
Transparency is vital.
Parents have every right to know what’s going on and be able to advocate/criticize/debate etc. for their children. But not everyone can get in front of a room full of people, behind a podium and mic and speak. Of course we can all reach out to the administration for one on one conversations, but I wanted to give the community another, more causal outlet to gather, speak and ask questions. At my request, the Superintendent and I hosted a “Conversation with the Superintendent”. I took notes and we sent them out to the community for those that couldn’t attend. We plan to do another now that the new school year is underway.
My core values and beliefs:
I believe that all students have the right to feel safe in school. However, the safety and security of some should not be at the expense of others. No one should feel uncomfortable in the most vulnerable places such as a bathroom or locker room.
I believe in the protection of women’s sports. If you were not assigned female at birth, I do not believe it’s fair to play on female teams. Men/boys are scientifically proven to be stronger and faster - full stop.
I disagree with teaching elementary students about gender fluidity and sexuality. We should teach our youngest students to be kind and respectful to everyone. And I am vehemently against pornographic books in our schools.
About Me:
I am married for 23 years with 2 daughters; one at Raritan High School and one at Cove Road School.
If re-elected, this will be my second term on the Board of Ed.
I grew up in Keyport and have been a Hazlet resident for 18 years.
If you’ve read this far I thank you!
Please feel free to message me with any questions. And also keep in mind that I am a current board member, so some topics/questions I may not be at liberty to discuss but can guide you on who to speak with for help.
Thank you for your time and support.
