Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, but we will never forget.

We will never forget the bravery and courage of the first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away. We will never forget the innocent lives lost that day, the families whose lives were forever changed, or the sacrifice and service of so many Americans in the years that followed.

We are blessed to live in the greatest and freest nation in the world. That freedom came at a tremendous cost, and it should never be taken for granted.

Today, we remember the fallen. We honor the heroes. We stand with their families. And we remind ourselves that no matter what forces of evil may rise against us, we must always defend the freedom, unity, and American ideals that make this nation great.

1) she is guilty
2) she suffers severe mental issues
3) mental issues don’t excuse murder
4) she should be sentenced to a mental facility for life

Been a busy week! Several jobs going on and played some golf with a buddy. Also caught this guy hanging out too close to the lodge so he had to be trespassed after a short pursuit and then he resisted arrest.

A PARTNER. A PROTECTOR. A PIECE OF MY FAMILY. 🐾🇺🇸

For many years at Hazen PD, I had the privilege of serving as a K9 Officer. My partner was K9 Belga.

And when I say partner, I mean exactly that.

Belga was one of the top dogs in the state. He was known for his attitude, his aggression, and his ability to apprehend suspects. When it was time to work, he knew his job and he damn sure wasn’t afraid to do it.

But there was another side of Belga most people never got to see.

The same dog who could chase down a suspect would come home, lay beside my kids, and turn into one hell of a babysitter. He knew the difference between work and home. He wasn’t just my K9 partner—he was part of our family.

In 2022, cancer finally took him from us.

Belga passed away in the backseat of my patrol car. I made sure of that because I knew that’s where he would’ve wanted to be. In the vehicle where we spent countless hours together. Where we went to work together. Where he waited on the next call beside me.

Losing that dog hurt me like losing a person.

After Belga died, I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to be a K9 handler again. It’s hard to explain that bond to somebody who has never experienced it. You don’t just lose a dog. You lose a partner who rode beside you, trusted you with his life, protected you, and would’ve gone through hell without hesitation if you asked him to.

Eventually, we purchased K9 Bosco, and I stepped back into the handler role.

Bosco was young. He didn’t have the experience Belga had, but he had something pretty special going for him—he got to live with Belga and me for about a year.

And I’m convinced Bosco probably learned more from that old dog than he ever learned from me.

Belga had already figured life out. Bosco was the young pup watching the veteran.

I remained Bosco’s handler until my injury forced that chapter of my career to end. Afterward, Bosco was passed down to Officer Cook to continue doing what he was born and trained to do.

Looking at this tattoo brings back a lot more than memories of a police dog. It reminds me of thousands of hours together, calls nobody else will ever completely understand, my kids loving on him at home, and one final ride when I had to say goodbye.

LIFE BEHIND THE BADGE

REAL LIFE • REAL TESTIMONY • REAL MOTIVATION

There’s a story behind this logo.

I’ll soon have Life Behind the Badge stickers and patches available, and I’ll also be giving them out at meet & greets and speaking engagements.

But this isn’t just another logo or something I thought looked cool.

Isaiah 41:10 is tattooed on my right forearm—my strong arm—for a reason.

FEAR NOT • I AM WITH YOU • I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU • I WILL HELP YOU • I WILL UPHOLD YOU

Those words mean something to me because I’ve had to live them.

When I speak about TBI, PTSD, mental health injuries, adversity, su***de, recovery, accountability, and rebuilding your life, I’m not standing in front of people pretending to be a doctor, therapist, or mental health professional.

I speak about what I know because I’ve lived it.

I speak about my testimony.

I speak about my injuries.

I speak about the battles nobody could see.

I speak about mistakes and failures.

I speak about accountability instead of excuses.

I speak about faith.

And most importantly, I speak about the things that worked for me when I was trying to put the pieces of my life back together.

MY ADVICE CAN BE BLUNT.

That’s because the road that taught me these lessons wasn’t gentle.

Life didn’t hand me a textbook and tell me exactly how to get through every bad day. There were consequences. There were mistakes. There were hard lessons. There were days when simply continuing to move forward was a victory.

So no, I don’t claim to have all the answers.

But I damn sure have real-life experience.

Sometimes someone who’s struggling doesn’t need another person talking at them.

They need to hear from somebody who’s been knocked down, gotten back up, learned something from it and is willing to tell the truth about what that process actually looked like.

That’s Life Behind the Badge.

AND THEN THERE’S MOTIVATION.

I’m a motivational man living in a world that gives us plenty of reasons to be negative.

I don’t show up to tell people everything is going to be easy.

I show up to remind them what they’re capable of when life gets hard.

My motivation doesn’t come from something I read in a book.

It comes from real injuries. Real struggles. Real failures. Real consequences. Real recovery. Real faith. Real victories.

And yes—sometimes motivation isn’t a pat on the back.

Sometimes you need somebody to light a damn fire under you.

If you’re looking for somebody to give your people another polished, feel-good speech and tell them everything they want to hear, I may not be your guy.

But if you want somebody who’s going to walk into that room, tell the truth, challenge people, make them think differently about their circumstances, and remind them that they’re capable of more than they’ve convinced themselves they are…

I’M YOUR GUY.
