National Preparedness Month – Week 3 🎒

Are you prepared if you need to stay home or leave quickly during an emergency?

An emergency kit can help make sure you and your family have the essentials you need when the unexpected happens.

Consider including:

Water and nonperishable food
Flashlights and extra batteries
First-aid supplies
Necessary medications
Phone chargers or portable power banks
Copies of important documents
Personal hygiene items
Supplies for children, older adults or pets in your household

Keep your supplies together in an easy-to-access location and check your kit periodically to replace expired items.

You don't have to build your emergency kit all at once. Start with the basics and add to it over time.

Be prepared today for what tomorrow may bring.

Meet Nick DellaMorte of the USA Senior Men’s team, representing East Islip, New York and St. Louis, Missouri 🇺🇸

Known as Dell, Nick describes his game as tenacious, responsible, and a scorer.

His pre-game setup includes plain pasta and Skrilla by Kodak Black. And given the chance to trade places with an athlete for a day, this New Yorker is going with Derek Jeter.

For Nick, wearing the USA jersey means even more as he gets older. He knows the journey hasn’t happened alone, and every time he represents Team USA, he carries the people and experiences that helped shape him along the way.

Also, somebody please answer Dell’s most important in-game question:

“Where are we?”

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Hazelwood Day! 💙

It was wonderful to see so many residents, families, and friends come together to enjoy an afternoon filled with activities, entertainment, and community spirit.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the City staff, volunteers, vendors, performers, community organizations, and everyone else who worked behind the scenes to make the event possible. Your time, effort, and support helped make Hazelwood Day a success!

The City of Hazelwood is offering free Narcan training to the public on Wednesday, September 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hazelwood City Hall Council Chambers.

Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, administer nasal Narcan, and obtain Narcan.

Today, the City of Hazelwood remembers the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honors the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and everyday heroes who answered the call.

May we continue to remember those we lost and stand together in the spirit of unity shown in the days that followed.

🚒 Firehouse Friday — A Day Early! 🚒

This week, we’re sharing our Firehouse Friday on Thursday. Since Friday falls on September 11, we will reserve that day to remember and honor those who lost their lives and the first responders who answered the call on 9/11.

This week, we’re featuring Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Rempe!

Sean joined the Hazelwood Fire Department in January 2022 and is currently assigned to C-Shift at House 1.

🔥 What is something about being a firefighter that surprised you when you first started?

💬 Sean:
“How often I am walking around a building smelling the air for something. Whether it be gas, smoke, or some unknown mystery smell. We have electronic air monitors, but sometimes your nose is the best tool.”

Sometimes firefighting means relying on high-tech equipment — and sometimes it means trusting your nose! 👃🚒

🍂 Hazelwood Day is only a couple of days away!

Make plans to join us this Saturday, September 12, from 3–9 p.m. at Howdershell Park for live music, free activities, and plenty of community fun.

The day will feature Diamond Empire Band and Superjam, a car show, bingo, horseshoes, a petting zoo, pony rides, balloon sculptures, face painting, inflatables, big trucks, and food trucks.
