🚧🏡 DreamBuilders Week is almost here! 🏡🚧

We’re excited to welcome Maryland DreamBuilders back to Eastern Kentucky for the 4th year in a row as they take on our Ultimate House Raising Challenge at Chestnut Ridge!

This year, they’ll once again work side by side with HDA’s professional carpenters to help frame 3 new homes in a single week - creating new opportunities for local families to achieve safe, quality, affordable homeownership. 💙

What makes this week so special isn’t just the speed or the scale - it’s the commitment. DreamBuilders keep coming back, year after year, to help build homes, hope, and stronger communities.

This is one of the most exciting weeks of our year, and we can’t wait to see the walls go up.

Stay tuned next week as we share updates, photos, and progress each day! 🙌

Today, on Juneteenth, we join communities across the country in honoring freedom, reflecting on our history, and recognizing the enduring contributions of Black Americans to our region and our nation.

At HDA, we believe strong communities are built not only through safe, affordable housing, but also through remembrance, inclusion, and a deeper appreciation for the people and stories that shape this place we call home.

As part of that spirit, we’re glad to share that the 3rd Annual ROOTS: Black Art and Life in These Hills Exhibit is happening this week at Hazard Coffee Company, presented by the Southeast Kentucky African-American Museum and Cultural Center, Inc.

The exhibit features works from both returning and new artists and offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the art, stories, and culture of Black life in Appalachia.

📍 Hazard Coffee Company - 486 Main Street, Downtown Hazard
📅 Open through Saturday at noon

If you’re able, we encourage you to stop by, experience the exhibit, and support this important community event.

🏡🎉 Another Home SOLD at Chestnut Ridge! 🎉🏡

Today is a big day - please join us in celebrating a new homeowner at Chestnut Ridge! While he’s chosen to keep his name and photo private, he was proud to let us share these views of his brand-new home - and we can see why. From the craftsmanship up close to the breathtaking placement on the ridge, this home is something special. 🌄✨

This milestone didn’t happen by chance. It took many hands - from funders and partners to donors, volunteers, and our dedicated office & construction team - to make this home a reality.

We’re especially grateful to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, Fahe and our Housing Can't Wait partners, Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, Knott County Long Term Disaster Recovery Group (for appliances), and Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Hal Rogers, along with everyone who gave their time, talent, and support to help make this moment possible. 🙌

To our new homeowner - congratulations! 🎊 We’re honored to be part of your journey and wish you many years of comfort, stability, and joy in your new home. 🔑

We’ve had to close our office for the rest of the day due to a power outage. Reports are that transformers have blown, and a restoration time suggests power will not be restored for hours. We expect to be open tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.

🏡✨ We were so pleased to welcome members of Fahe’s June Caucus meeting to Hazard today for a tour of Skyview Estates!

It was a joy to show our guests around this new high-ground neighborhood and share the progress taking shape there. Participants had the opportunity to see homes built by Appalachia Service Project, modular homes by Family Scholar House, and tour four HDA homes - with many more throughout the neighborhood on display as well.

The homes toured included a mix of 3- and 4-bedroom homes, each one representing the kind of quality, care, and opportunity that families in our region deserve. 🏠💙

We were especially excited for visitors to see firsthand the beautiful work being done by HDA’s skilled carpenters, whose craftsmanship is helping bring these homes to life. Their talent and dedication are evident in every detail.

At the same time, a project of this size and significance only happens through true collaboration. Skyview Estates is the result of many partners, many hands, and a shared commitment to creating safe, strong, and lasting housing for Eastern Kentucky families. 🤝

We’re grateful to Fahe for spending part of their time in Hazard with us today. Fahe’s leadership and partnership are deeply important to housing in our region, helping bring together organizations, ideas, and resources that make transformative work like this possible across Appalachia.

Thank you for visiting Skyview Estates and for being part of the broader effort to strengthen housing in our community! 🌄

🌈✨ A moment of beauty at Skyview Estates ✨🌈

One of our new homeowners, April Spears, captured these incredible photos of a full double rainbow - right above Skyview Estates in Perry County!

From this scenic mountaintop, views like this are simply part of the everyday magic. 🏔️💛

It’s a powerful reminder of why high-ground communities like Skyview matter - not just for safety, but for the peace, beauty, and hope they bring to the families who call them home.

Thank you for sharing these with us, April - we’re so grateful to see Skyview through your lens! 📸

We’re grateful to 88.9 WEKU for highlighting Chestnut Ridge and the first batch of homes we've completed in this new high-ground community in Knott County!

Chestnut Ridge is planned as a 200-home neighborhood, and HDA has completed 17 homes in the first phase, with more on the way.

*All 4 builders on site (HDA, Samaritan's Purse, Appalachia Service Project and HOMES, Inc.) have collectively completed over 50 new homes!

This milestone represents what’s possible when local, state, and national partners come together to invest in Eastern Kentucky families and communities. Thirteen families have already moved into HDA-built homes at Chestnut Ridge, with additional move-ins expected soon.

We’re proud to be part of this work - and even prouder of what it means for the future of our region!

🎉 Congratulations to Elaine Baker! 🎉

Elaine, at right, is the lucky winner of a $25 Visa gift card from HDA! 🏡💳

As part of programs such as HOME and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, some homeowners agree to remain in their homes for a designated period of time. To help us confirm compliance with those requirements, we recently asked participating homeowners to submit a copy of their utility bill. Everyone who responded was entered into a drawing as a token of our appreciation.

And this time, Elaine’s name was drawn! 🎊

Meanwhile, Zoey, our Intake Specialist AmeriCorps, is sporting a smile that deserves recognition all its own. 😁

Thank you to everyone who submitted their information. Your cooperation helps us meet program requirements, and we truly appreciate your partnership and support. 💛
