Assistant Chief Fields was on-duty in the fire station. He was walking from the bunkroom to the hallway when he fell to the floor, the victim of a heart attack. He died later that day.

School buses are back on coalfield roads, and Kentucky's stopping rules changed over the summer. Since July 15, drivers must stop for a school or church bus with its stop arm out and red lights flashing — from either direction, on nearly every road, including four-lane highways. The only exception is a four-lane road divided by an unpaved median or a raised barrier. A first offense costs $300. Watch for the buses, and watch for our kids.

Today is a sad day we found out a long time friend and fellow firefighter and instructor lost his life. Dale was a great friend a great instructor and a great fireman, he always encouraged those who took his classes to push thru your hard points in class that you can do anything you set your mind to and never let no one tell you that you can’t do anything you have set your mind to do. You will be missed, we will keep your memory alive by telling your stories you told and our memories we have of you teaching classes and the after class trail rides thru the hills of eastern Ky “ Remember it’s only a small hill we went down to get to the creek trail” that day he smoked 6 ci******es at the bottom of the hill. We had a great time enjoyed good food, friends, and scenery.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighters Sydney & Ethan Jones on the birth of their son Jensen David Jones.

Jensen entered the world weighing 8 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 22 inches in length.

From all of us at the Avawam Fire Department, welcome to the fire service family, Baby Jensen David Jones. We look forward to watching you grow and become a part of our family we are glad Mother and Baby are doing great look forward to seeing you soon.

Today perry county lost a great, firefighter, fire chief, Veteran, father, Grandfather, Husband. Carter Hall was a great man who loved his community, friends and family of you was in distress he was on the scene assisting you thru that emergency. When we used to cook for fire school he stood by the grill and fried as many burgers, hotdogs as we needed to feed the crew that came out. He offered wisdom knowledge and friendship to those who needed it and would give you the shirt off his back to help you.
Here’s to you sir God Speed on your journey to the other side watch over the ones down here doing the work whisper on his ear if you don’t care for us “ You see that one right there they are special to me give them a little extra time if you don’t care God they have a lot to do to help others and I thank ya”
