From Education to Career to Homeownership! 🎓🏡🔑 What a great day in Hayward! I started my day at Cal State East Bay talking with students about their educational journeys and ended it by cutting the ribbon on 10 brand-new Habitat for Humanity homes for Hayward families! As Mayor, I promised to build seamless pathways from preschool to college, from college to meaningful careers, and from careers to homeownership. That is what it means to be an Education City! Today, that vision came full circle. I had the incredible honor of handing keys to a 2026 CSU East Bay graduate who earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees right here in Hayward. Today, she and her family are proud new homeowners in the very city where she pursued her education! Hayward is a city that plans, invests, partners, and builds futures. Today’s celebration demonstrates what is possible when our educational institutions, housing partners, and public agencies work together to turn opportunity into reality. Congratulations to all 10 families beginning a new chapter in Hayward. Welcome home! 🏡❤️

Proud to Announce Three Significant Endorsements! I am honored to announce that two former California State University, East Bay Presidents, Leroy Morish*ta and Mohammad “Mo” Qayoumi, along with recently retired Chabot College President Susan Sperling, have endorsed my campaign for re-election as Mayor of Hayward! These endorsements are especially meaningful to me. Having worked closely with all three presidents over the years, I am deeply grateful for their confidence, trust, and support of my leadership. Cal State East Bay and Chabot College are two of Hayward’s most important educational and economic institutions. Beyond preparing our future professionals and leaders, they generate significant economic activity through high-quality jobs, professional services, housing, athletics, tourism, and entertainment.
As Mayor, I believe strong partnerships between City Hall and our colleges and universities are essential to building a thriving city and creating opportunities for Hayward families. Over the years, our partnerships have produced real, tangible results:
guaranteed admission pathways to Cal State East Bay for Hayward students; scholarships that make Chabot College more affordable; paid workforce development opportunities connecting students to careers; direct recruitment, training, and career pathways into the Hayward Fire Department. These are more than institutional partnerships. They are investments in our students, our families, our workforce, and Hayward’s economic future. I have tremendous respect for all three presidents and their years of leadership in higher education. Their trust in me and their confidence in the work we have accomplished together mean a great deal. Thank you, Presidents Morish*ta, Qayoumi, and Sperling, for your endorsements, your friendship, and your continued commitment to Hayward.

Today, we joined Ava Community Energy at the City of Hayward’s Corporation Yard to celebrate another major milestone in our commitment to clean, renewable energy. Our Corporation Yard and Fire Station #1 are now fully powered by solar energy. This achievement didn’t happen overnight. It represents years of thoughtful planning, strategic investments, and strong partnerships through Hayward’s Climate Action Plan. For years, Hayward has been a regional leader in reducing our carbon footprint and advancing policies that combat climate change. Today’s milestone is another example of how those long-term investments are delivering real results. Our commitment to sustainability is more than a plan on paper. We are putting our policies into action, one project at a time! A big thank you to Ava Community Energy, our City staff, and all the partners who worked to bring this project online. Together, we’re building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Hayward for generations to come!
