The Voice of Democrats in Alameda County
Building a Better Future for All

The Alameda County Democratic Party is governed by a Central Committee elected by Alameda County Democrats every four years. The Alameda County Democratic Party coordinates the party’s activities throughout the county, making endorsements, organizing events, and directing resources to support local, state, and national cand

idates. Its governing body, the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, is charged under state law with overseeing the Party’s local activities and campaigns, under the general direction of the California Democratic Party. The Central Committee consists of members elected from each of the county’s State Assembly Districts, as well as the Democratic nominees for Congress, State Senate, Assembly, and State Constitutional office. The Central Committee’s members are elected every four years on the party’s Presidential primary ballot and meet monthly throughout the year. The Alameda County Democratic Party Central Committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month (except during July or election months). Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

‘Without new funding, BART could be forced to cut as much as 70% of its service, close as many as 15 stations and shut down as early as 9 p.m. — returning the system to what it looked like in 1976.’

Solidarity is forever.

Feminist trailblazer Gloria Steinem (1934–2026) joined legendary activist Dorothy Pitman Hughes (1938–2022) in the 1970s to promote support for women's issues via a series of national speaking tours. In 1971, they immortalized their solidarity and commitment to the movement via an iconic photoshoot for Esquire Magazine.

Four decades later, Steinem and Hughes joined forces yet again to recreate the powerful photograph.

Boom! The California Legislature tonight approved my SB 813, landmark legislation that would establish a first-in-the-nation framework for independent, third-party assessments of potential safety risks posed by artificial intelligence systems.

“The California Legislature today sent a clear message: It’s time for California to take the lead in assessing AI’s potential safety risks, since Washington, D.C., is unable or unwilling to do so,” said Sen. McNerney, D-Pleasanton, who authored the landmark AI in Government Act while serving in Congress. “AI has the potential to improve our lives, but without sufficient guardrails, it also poses significant risks. SB 813 will ensure the creation of independent, third-party assessments of AI to ensure the technology is safe and beneficial.”

SB 813 won bipartisan approval in the Senate on a vote of 37-0, after the Assembly approved the bill on a bipartisan vote of 53-4. The bill now goes to the governor’s desk.
