Clean Water Program Alameda County Protecting Alameda County Creeks, Wetlands and the Bay

The Clean Water Program empowers Alameda County residents and businesses to protect their local creeks, wetlands and the Bay. We do this by providing expert information and practical guidance on how to prevent water pollution during everyday activities. Comprised of cities and agencies from around the county, the Clean Water Program facilitates local compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act as well as other regulations designed to prevent water pollution. Among our many free resources are publications with practical advice, reports on water quality-related issues, as well as maps of local creek and watersheds. The Program also offers community stewardship grants, volunteer opportunities and community actions, like cleaning up a local creek or stenciling storm drains. Member agencies include: The cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Newark, Oakland, Piedmont, Pleasanton, San Leandro, Union City, the County of Alameda, the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, and the Zone 7 Water Agency.

We work hand-in-hand with local agencies to protect our environment, cultivating a shared responsibility for our creeks, wetlands, and the Bay.

Our creeks, rivers, and wetlands need a little extra love, and we can make a huge impact together. This September 19th, join thousands of fellow Californians across the state for Coastal Cleanup Day as we roll up our sleeves to protect our precious water supply and keep the Bay thriving.

Itโ€™s an awesome opportunity to give back to the environment, connect with your community, and have a total blast while doing good. Mark your calendars, grab a friend, and letโ€™s keep Californiaโ€™s waters clean and beautiful! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Whatโ€™s one small thing youโ€™re doing this week to help keep our Bay litter-free?

๐ŸŒŠ Happy Coastal Cleanup Month! ๐ŸŒŠ
Fred and Izzy are sending a HUGE thank you to everyone helping keep their homeโ€”the San Francisco Bay, along with its creeks and wetlandsโ€”clean and healthy! ๐Ÿ’™
Did you know that coastal cleanup actually starts right in your own neighborhood? ๐Ÿกโœจ

Hereโ€™s why your local sidewalk matters:
๐Ÿšฏ Street litter gets washed into storm drains when it rains.
๐ŸŒŠ Storm drains flow directly into our waterwaysโ€”completely untreated!
๐Ÿ›‘ Picking up trash near home stops pollution before it ever reaches the Bay.
Every single piece of litter you pick up makes a massive difference for local wildlife! ๐Ÿฆ€๐ŸŸ

The Alameda County Unincorporated Area Clean Water Program hosted two successful cleanup events for Bishop O' Dowd students. One at Chabot Park with Friends of San Leandro Creek and another at Castro Valley Creek trail with Friends of San Lorenzo Creek. About 100 students helped pick up trash near the creeks, beautify the area, and learn more about how to protect their local waterways.
