When the unexpected happens, preparation is everything. ๐Ÿš’

This month, the Hays Fire Department completed complex rescue training, working both internally and side-by-side with our local partner agencies. Crews focused on advanced rope extrications, which involved lifting and lowering techniques for people trapped in high or low angles.

This intensive, hands-on experience ensures that when our community needs us most, our first responders are ready to execute technical, life-saving operations seamlessly as a unified team.

We had a fantastic time at Picnic in the PARC this past weekend! ๐ŸŒณโ˜€๏ธ

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and connect with neighbors.

Our Hays Police Department officers loved getting the chance to pause for some great photos and capture a few smiles with the kids in our community. Building strong relationships starts right here at home.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Devin and Martha have officially completed 14 weeks of rigorous basic training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC)!

A special shoutout goes to Martha, who began her journey with the Hays Police Department as a Community Service Officer. During her time at the academy, she earned the award for Most Improved Physical Fitness Level! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ† Talk about dedication!

Both Devin and Martha are back in Hays and will be continuing their on-the-job training with the Hays PD this week. If you see them around town, be sure to give them a warm welcome and a huge congratulations!

Proud to host our law enforcement partners right here in Hays! ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿค

Recently, our city was the gathering place for an impactful joint meeting hosted by the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, the Kansas Sheriffs Association, the Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Kansas Peace Officers Association. Itโ€™s always a privilege to welcome so many dedicated professionals to our community.

Beyond just a meeting, this was an excellent opportunity for the different agencies to undergo valuable training and build strong connections, ensuring even better teamwork and collaboration in the future to keep Kansas safe!

A special shoutout to our very own Hays Police Deputy Chief Tim Greenwood and Detective JB Burkholder for presenting to the group and sharing their expertise. We are incredibly proud of their leadership and dedication to the field.

This morning, Sergeant Dakota Reese and Detective Chris Hancock took a few extra minutes to help a young man who was on his way to school after he got a flat tire. What could have been a stressful start to the day turned into a reminder that looking out for one another still matters. Acts like this may seem small, but they reflect the kind of service and care that our officers strive to provide every day. Have a great day!

Over the past few days, severe wildfires have consumed more than 100,000 acres across Southwest Kansas. When our neighboring communities face a crisis, the City of Hays steps up.

Last Thursday evening, Firefighters Grady Keith and Trevor Sherman deployed to the region to help battle the blazes. After putting in relentless work on the firelines in highly dangerous conditions, they returned home safely at 3:00 AM Saturday morning.

The fight is far from over. With high winds and dynamic conditions persisting, Lt. Tyler Brungardt and Lt. Tim Detrixhe (pictured) have been authorized to deploy to Clark County. They will team up with the Dickinson County Task Force to provide much-needed operational support and relief.

Please keep our deploying personnel, all responding crews, and the families affected by these devastating fires in your thoughts. We are incredibly proud of our team's dedication to serving and protecting our fellow Kansans.
