The American Democracy Project initiative provides numerous civic and political engagement activities that challenge and encourage students to find their place and make a difference. Great news, Tigers! We have rescheduled this Times Talk for next Wednesday at noon, so be sure to check it out and have a meal on us! Read more about the Times Talk below!

Last year, the headlines about educational progress post-pandemic confirmed what most of us already anticipated: significant learning loss for elementary and secondary students and a widening gap between higher-performing and lower-performing students. Data released in 2022 showed the largest ever recorded decline in mathematics and not a single increase in reading scores across the country in grades 4 and 8.

Education: Evaluating Progress in the Pandemic will examine one of the most pressing issues that permeate every student regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, ability, and location – the pursuit of knowledge through our current system of education and the trends in student achievement.

The upcoming Times Talk will explore the data collected to measure student achievement throughout the country since 1969. We will discuss the results of the 2022 Nation’s Report Card; the impact on students, teachers, and policies; and strategies to target inequalities and disparities in education.
