Northern Lakes Fire crews were alerted to the area of Honeysuckle and Avalanche in Hayden this afternoon for reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence. Crews arrived to find a pickup style truck had crashed into the living area of the home. Crews found multiple patients on scene, one was transported to Kootenai Health with injuries. Unfortunately one patient had succumbed to their injuries prior to crew arrival. Our thoughts our with all affected from this incident.

Join us this Saturday May 16th New Leaf Nursery-Hayden from 9 AM to 1 PM and learn about wildfire preparedness from Kootenai County Emergency Management, US Forest Service and Northern Lakes Fire. Learn about Idaho Department of Lands burn permits. Smokey will make an appearance around 10 am and Noon.

After weeks of intensive training, the eight recruits with Northern Lakes Fire Protection District got to put their new skills to the test in a trial by fire during live burn training.

After 10 weeks of Fire Academy, NLFD is proud to congratulate our newest recruit class and our second-largest graduating class, with eight new firefighters joining our district.

These positions were funded by last fall’s temporary levy, approved by the taxpayers of Hayden and Rathdrum. Their support is critical to maintaining and improving NLFD’s emergency response as incident volume continues to increase across our growing 108-square-mile fire district.

We also want to recognize and thank our Fire and EMS instructors — Aagesen, Baker, Cunningham, Malloy, Parrish, Steiger, Waites and Usher — for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to preparing the next generation of Northern Lakes firefighters.
