We've seen the questions going around about when the splash pad will be opening. Our intentions were to have it opened May 1, 2026, however, we are currently under a Level I Drought Declaration per the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. You may read more about this declaration at https://epd.georgia.gov/.../2026.../level-1-drought-declared. As a public water system, we are required to provide public awareness about water conservation, which we did late last month via Facebook and in this weeks paper, when under this declaration. While the city is still able to have our splash pad operational under this declaration, we felt that we needed to be better stewards of our drinking water and to try and conserve our resource since we are asking the public to do the same. Our splash pad does not used recycled water, if this were the case, we would have already opened it. We plan to open it later this month unless there are escalated declarations issued by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division that may mandate further consideration. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

K-Dug Underground Utility Company will begin work in the Sunnybrook Circle and Easy Street area on Wednesday, May 6, to replace a 2-inch water main. As part of this project, a new main line will be installed and several customers will be connected to the new system. Residents whose service will be tied into the new line will receive an automated phone call using the contact information on file with City Hall. There will be a small disruption in service when services are tied into the new line, typically less than 1 hour. Effected residents will also receive an automated phone call the day of the tie in.

After the water main installation is complete, K-Dug will proceed with repairs to a sewer line in the area using a method called pipe bursting. This technique is less invasive than traditional excavation and is commonly used to efficiently replace or repair underground sewer lines with minimal surface disruption.

Barring weather or unforeseen delays, the project is expected to be completed prior to May 25.
