HPD is back. Our staffing levels are the strongest they have been in years, and that progress comes from leadership, accountability, and support for the officers who serve this city every day.

This department is no longer being led through fear and intimidation, as it was under the previous administration. The membership of this union made it clear that poor leadership and division were no longer acceptable.

Today, morale within the department is rising, officers are motivated, and the positive results are being seen throughout the city.

This union stands firmly behind Chief Tracy and the direction in which this department is moving. The numbers speak for themselves, and the change our officers and community wanted is evident.

We support leaders who stand with their officers — not against them.

The keyboard critics can continue talking. Meanwhile, we will continue doing the job, protecting this city, and rebuilding this department the right way.

Today, we had the honor of bringing our fallen K9, Twister, home for the final time. Escorted by his partner, Officer McDonagh, alongside fellow K9 Officer Graham and K9 Rex, Twister’s final ride was also accompanied by members of our motor unit: Officer Pearl, Officer Mackinnon, Officer Cronin, and Officer Baldera.

We are grateful, under the leadership of Chief Tracy, that moments like these are honored and remembered, allowing our department to come together in mourning and reflection. Twister was far more than a police K9 — he was a trusted partner, loyal protector, and cherished member of our department family.

The dignity and respect shown during his journey home speak to the deep bond shared between our officers and their K9 partners.

Rest easy, Twister. Your watch has ended, but your service, loyalty, and legacy will never be forgotten.

Today our detectives and Massachusetts State Police conducted two search warrants on Joseph Hurley. During the searches, investigators recovered a substantial quantity of suspected co***ne, along with additional evidence consistent with drug distribution and manufacturing activity. Officers also seized a loaded firearm, a large-capacity magazine, and other firearm-related items.
We are proud of the hard work these two units put into this operation. Their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork helped remove dangerous drugs and illegal weapons from our community. This operation reflects the continued commitment of law enforcement to keeping our neighborhoods safe.

This morning the members of the the Haverhill Police Department were in full swing assisting with the NECC graduation ceremonies. While assisting NECC Police department K9 Handler Justin Graham, K9 REX and Drone Operator Officer Keith Cronin were on site helping ensure the event ran safely and smoothly for all graduates, families, and staff. The department is proud to support such an important milestone for the community and celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class. Congratulations to all of the graduates on your hard work and success, and thank you to everyone who helped make today’s event a great one.
From aerial surveillance support to proactive K9 operations, our officers worked together to maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the ceremony. These specialized units continue to play a vital role in modern policing by enhancing public safety, crowd management, and rapid response capabilities.

Our department lost someone truly special with the passing of our newest member, K9 Twister. K9 Twister quickly proved himself to be a loyal partner, a hard worker, and a valued member of our team. His dedication to the job and unwavering bond with his handler, K9 Officer McDonagh, never went unnoticed.. This loss is felt deeply across the department and by all who had the privilege to work alongside him. We stand with Officer McDonagh during this difficult time and honor K9 Twister’s service and sacrifice. He will never be forgotten.

This past Monday, our local K9 Rex took on the competition and headed to the Boston Marathon to work. Rex operated alongside multiple agencies, ensuring the safety of thousands of runners and spectators throughout the event. His training, discipline, and drive were on full display as he performed his duties with precision. We’re proud of the work Rex continues to do representing our department and keeping the public safe.
