Keep the Wreath Red!!

The Havana Fire Department is once again doing our “Keep the Wreath Red” campaign this holiday season. The wreath is intended to remind residnts of safe practices throughout the holidays. For each residential or commercial fire the department responds to through the end of the year, a red bulb will be replaced with a white bulb. The following are some safe practices to follow this holiday season.

- Don’t leave your cooking unattended
- Keep your furnace filters clean
- Space heaters must be plugged directly into the wall and not another extension cord
- Extinguish scented candles before leaving home
- Freshly cut Christmas trees need watered daily
- Charge devices on a hard surface

Remember to “Keep the Wreath Red” this holiday season!!

Happy Holidays from Havana Fire Department

Happy Fall!

As fall arrives, so does the falling of leaves and sticks. While the City of Havana does allow the burning of leaves and yard waste, here are a few things you need to know before doing so.

- All open burning must be monitored by an adult with a method of extinguishment, such as water, rake, or shovel.
- No burning within 50 feet of any structure, roadway, or city property.
- Burning is not allowed between sunset and sunrise, and on windy days, please refrain from burning altogether.
- Be mindful of your neighbors who may have breathing complications and consider taking your yard waste to the city’s tree dump for disposal which is open daily.
- Yard waste can also be picked up by the City at your home within city limits on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

If you have any questions, please contact the Havana Fire Department and we thank you for your cooperation.
