Hattiesburg Petal Forrest Lamar MPO

Hattiesburg Petal Forrest Lamar MPO The Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar Metropolitan Planning Organization was established in August 1980. All meetings are open to the public.

The Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar Metropolitan Planning Organization was established in August 1982 after The City of Hattiesburg's population reached 50,000 plus. The MPO is required by state and federal law to maintain a Transportation Plan for the urbanized area that forecasts transportation needs over at least a twenty-year period. The planning process includes the development of a Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) that outlines a broad vision of the transportation system in the metropolitan area, and also includes developing a Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) that prioritizes a list of projects. The MPO invites the public to participate in the transportation planning process. Public input is routinely solicited during the development of plans, programs, and projects. The MPO Governing Board meets in the Community Room located in the Hattiesburg Train Depot in downtown Hattiesburg.
