The Hatfield Fire Department recognizes Smith Academy student, Eli Bai, for his outstanding lifesaving efforts that saved a fellow classmate.

While on a field trip, Eli performed the Heimlich maneuver after noticing a student in distress. This technique dislodged the obstruction, and saved the individual's life. Eli received this training as part of his education at Smith Academy.

During a ceremony in honor of his heroism, Chief Flaherty along with other members of HFD and HPD presented Eli with the following certificate. Eli also received a Hatfield Fire Department challenge coin, which is reserved for members the department and individuals who show extreme acts of courage, such as Eli, during an emergency.

Please give Eli a round of applause!
