Barry Conservation District Hastings To promote responsible natural resource and land-use management for present and future generations.

As a locally controlled governmental subdivision of the state, the Barry Conservation District is governed by a citizen-elected board of five Directors. The Board of Directors is charged to assess natural resources within the District, develop a plan of action to address natural resource issues, and employ staff to implement this plan through education, programs, projects and technical assistance

provided to District landowners. Directors are elected to four-year terms, meet publicly each month to conduct business, publish annual reports and hold annual meetings.

Barry County will not hold a Fall Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) or Scrap Tire Collection in 2026.
Barry County residents are encouraged to utilize the alternative HHW disposal options available to them including the Kalamazoo Household Hazardous Waste Center and Byron Center SafeChem, located at the South Kent Landfill.

Join us this September to collect macroinvertebrates (i.e. river bugs) in the Thornapple River watershed for the MiCorps: Michigan Clean Water Corps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program.

Macroinvertebrate sampling is an easy and fun way to determine water quality. Some macroinvertebrates are very sensitive and can only survive in high quality waters, others can live with high amounts of pollution present.
