We do not hesitate to respond and help anyone who is in need in our community, or in any of our neighboring communities that are in need. The department trains weekly, and our members take it upon themselves to do additional training above and beyond to be able to provide the best service we can to our community.

The HVFD would like to congratulate Emery Kaltenborn and Cadence Pooley on receiving 2 scholarships for being involved in the fire service. Both amazing young ladies received the FASNY 2026 Gerald J. Buckenmeyer Memorial scholarship and the Firefighter scholarship from the surrounding districts. These ladies have become not only a integral part of the Hasting Fire Department but are heading off to college for amazing career fields. We wish them the best of luck in the future. Ladies as you embark on the pathways before you, know your brothers and sisters at the HVFD will always be your biggest supporters. Keep up the amazing work.

Small changes continue to give us tools to continue to help the community. If you want to lower your income taxes by $800 come join us. There really is something for everyone!

After years of advocacy by FASNY, the NYS Assembly has passed landmark legislation increasing the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800, the first increase since the program was established nearly 20 years ago.

This legislation, S.6233-A (Sen. Martinez) / A.6790-A (MOA McMahon), also removes outdated restrictions that prevented volunteers from receiving both the state income tax credit and locally authorized property tax exemptions, delivering long-overdue support for volunteer emergency responders across New York state.

“This is a transformational moment for volunteer emergency services in New York State,” said FASNY First Vice President, Donald J. Farrell. “Quadrupling the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800 sends a powerful message that New York recognizes the critical role volunteers play in protecting communities every day.”

As volunteer departments statewide continue to face recruitment and retention challenges, the legislation represents one of the most significant investments in volunteer emergency services in decades.

The Senate is expected to advance the measure in the coming days.

This past weekend, one of our Life Members, Past Chief John Mclaughlin was honored on a from Syracuse. Escorted by one of his daughters down to Washington DC. John has served the CNY community for over 50 years as a firefighter and we are so proud to have been able to benefit from John's vast experience over the years. One of our extended family members from Central Square Fire Company, Ed Linstruth, was honored also and we were lucky to get a couple pictures of these great men together during the event. Anyone that doesn't know about , spend a moment and see the great work that this group is doing. https://honorflightsyracuse.org/ Congratulations John and Ed and thank you for your service!
