NEWS RELEASE:

On Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 at approximately 9:21 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Department was notified that a bomb threat was received by a national hotline indicating there were multiple improvised explosive devices placed in Holstein, Nebraska. There were certain details of the very detailed threat that caused the validity of the threat to be questioned. Preliminary investigation revealed that it was a third-party report with the call originating outside of the United States. Adams County Emergency Management, the Holstein Volunteer Fire Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol were notified and placed on standby. Deputies responded to Holstein and searched the area specified in the threat and an additional area potentially related to it and found nothing of concern. The Adams County Sheriff's Department takes these calls seriously, the source of the threat will continue to be investigated. There is no reason to believe the public was, or is in danger.

This week, we celebrate National Correctional Officers Week. As we approach the second anniversary of operations at the Adams County Justice Center, there is a great deal to be proud of.
After more than 20 years in law enforcement and now serving in a corrections role, I continue to be impressed by the work our team does every day. Being a Correctional Officer is not a job for everyone; it requires a unique level of drive, commitment, and resilience.
Much of what our staff does goes unseen by the public. Behind these walls, they are making a difference every single day. They serve not only as officers, but also as counselors, investigators, social workers, mentors, and mediators.
They work holidays, miss birthdays, and sacrifice time with family and friends. They face assaults, endure verbal abuse, and are routinely tested by those who seek to push boundaries. Despite this, they remain professional, consistent, and firm in upholding the standards of this facility.
If you see a Correctional Officer, please take a moment to stop them and thank them for their hard work and commitment.
As Jail Administrator, I am extremely proud of the work they do. They have earned my respect and admiration through their dedication and professionalism.

On Friday, May 1, Deputy Taylor Schneider was officially sworn in as an Adams County Deputy by County Court Judge Michael Mead.

Deputy Schneider started his field training officer program today, Deputy Schneider’s transition into the FTO program is a key step in ensuring the safety and service of Adams County. His arrival strengthens the department's ability to serve the local community.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026 the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Police Department, South Heartland District Health Department, and Walmart joined forces in the Adams County Drug Take Back Event. During the take back 229 lbs of prescription drugs were collected for disposal. Thank you to those involved and the community for supporting this successful event.

Standing between Adams County Sheriff John Rust and Chief Deputy Kevin Mauck is Adams County’s recent graduate of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center’s 222nd Basic Training Session, Taylor Schneider. The NLETC basic is 16 weeks and over 600 hrs of training that takes a special person to complete and be dedicated for the purpose of becoming a public servant. Congratulations Deputy Schneider for your diligence and Commitment in completing your training, we look forward to working with you as your career begins with Adams County.

Our dispatchers are the unseen first responders—answering calls in moments of crisis, gathering critical information, and ensuring that help is sent quickly and efficiently. Their ability to remain composed under pressure, show compassion to those in need, and support our deputies and first responders is nothing short of remarkable.

Day in and day out, they serve as the vital link between our community and emergency services. Their work often goes unnoticed, but it is essential to the safety and well-being of everyone we serve.

To our dispatchers and 911 professionals: thank you for your professionalism, your dedication, and your unwavering commitment to this community. We are grateful for all that you do.
