Declaration Deep Dive: Deconstructing the Declaration of Independence

Join the discussion as we deconstruct the text of our seminal founding document. Together we will explore the ideas, principles and values that ultimately laid the foundation for our country’s founding.

Our textual analysis will focus on the meaning of the text at the time and its relevance today. Including how the document has evolved, inspiring many on the global stage over the last 250 years.

Free! Teens and adults are welcome to join the conversation.

Join Dr. Shirley Green as she discusses her ancestors, William and Benjamin Frank, two free men of color who enlisted in the famed Rhode Island "Black Regiment" during the Revolutionary War; offering a larger examination of the lives and actions of free Blacks in Revolutionary America and how they attempted to become full citizens in America.

Shirley Green, PhD, is a respected historian, teacher, and author dedicated to exploring the profound impact of Revolutionary Black figures throughout history. She is an adjunct professor of history at the University of Toledo and
Bowling Green State University, and the
Director of the Toledo Police Museum
in Toledo, Ohio.
