HHFD was dispatched to the 200 block of Madison Ave this afternoon for reports of a fire inside the home. The first arriving Chief had smoke showing and transmitted a working fire. Crews found heavy fire in the outside wall of the home from the first floor to the attic. An aggressive attack was done by the first-due engine keeping the fire from spreading throughout the whole home. The fire was contained to the original outside wall. Heights units that operated on scene were Chiefs 61, 62, Engine 2, and Squad 1. The fire went to a second alarm to cover the firehouse. An elevator entrapment call was taken by our cover companies while companies operated at the fire scene. Thank you to our mutual aid for the assistance on scene and coverage:

Yesterday evening, HHFD conducted a training exercise with the Port Authority's Aircraft Fire and Rescue Team at Teterboro Airport. We toured the airport grounds, stopping at areas we might encounter during an emergency operation. Areas such as in-ground hydrant locations as well as high-hazard areas were part of the tour. This was a great training to familiarize ourselves with the grounds in the event of an emergency. We thank the Port Authority for setting up the training. HHFD would also like to remind everyone that we don’t only cover Hasbrouck Heights, we cover the Borough of Teterboro including backing up the Port Authority ARFF. We are 100% volunteer and are always looking for new members.

Around 10am, while operating at a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of AIM off Route 17, the department was dispatched to Teterboro for a fire alarm at Bergen County Tech. During the investigation, crews found smoke coming from the boiler. A 10-30 was transmitted and a precautionary line was stretched where the cause was determined to be from a burnt-up motor. While handling the smoke in the boiler room, Chief 61 found the cafeteria kitchen filling with smoke due to unattended cooking. Thank you to the mutual aid that responded to the scene. Over the past few days, the HHFD have been on several incidents, starting Sunday morning with high carbon monoxide readings in a commercial building, followed that evening by a garage fire on Roosevelt Avenue. On Monday, the FD answered multiple alarms, including a smoke condition in a basement in a home on Terrace Avenue. Tonight, HHFD welcomes our newest member Anthony Ruffino. HHFD is always looking for new members; reach out to the Chief's office for more information.
