🏆 Congratulations to the Harwood Heights Police Department! 🚔

Our department was recently recognized by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Committee for its outstanding commitment to traffic safety and enforcement.

The department earned First Place in the Municipal Officer 26–35 category, along with special awards for:

🚘 Distracted Driving Enforcement
✅ Occupant Protection
⭐ Rookie of the Year — Officer Patrick Gajewniak

These honors reflect the hard work, professionalism, and dedication our officers demonstrate every day through proactive enforcement, grant-funded details, safety initiatives, and public education.

Members of the Village Board were proud to attend and show their support. Please join us in congratulating our officers on this well-deserved recognition and thanking them for their continued commitment to keeping Harwood Heights a safe place to live and work! 👏

🚘 Our Annual Car Show is approaching! 🚘

Join the Village of Harwood Heights on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Steinhafels parking lot, 7304 W. Lawrence Avenue, for a day filled with incredible cars, oldies music, prizes and fun!

🏁 Registration: 8:30 AM–12:30 PM
🏆 Judging: 12:30 PM
🎉 Awards: 1:30 PM

Awards include:

• Top 20
• People’s Choice
• Mayor’s Choice

The first 100 registered vehicles will receive a commemorative dash plaque! We’ll also have a DJ playing your favorite oldies, event T-shirts and a 50/50/50 raffle.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION : PLEASE READ

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, in the morning hours, we will be conducting Operation Safe Return, a scheduled Active Threat Safety Exercise at Giles School, 4251 N Oriole, Norridge, IL 60706.

This exercise will involve multiple jurisdictions and public safety agencies (see below), so residents of Harwood Heights and Norridge may notice an increase in police and fire presence in the area, including squad cars and personnel from neighboring communities. There may also be temporary street closures nearby.

This is a planned training exercise and NOT a real emergency.

Exercises like this allow our police officers, firefighters, dispatchers, schools, and partner agencies to train together before an emergency ever happens.
