Happy Flag Day, Harwood Heights! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

The rain has finally moved out, so consider this your official notice: you’re clear to fly those flags today.

As a department, we’re fortunate to have an Honor Guard that proudly carries the American flag at memorial services, ceremonies, and events throughout the year. It’s a reminder that the flag isn’t just something we see every day. It represents the people, sacrifices, and communities that have helped shape this country.

Today, we hope you’ll take a moment to put your flag out, give it a glance, and maybe appreciate it a little more than usual.

And if you’ve got Old Glory flying at your home or business, we’d love to see it. Drop a photo in the comments and help us fill the page with a little red, white, and blue. ā¤ļøšŸ¤šŸ’™

Happy Flag Day, Harwood Heights.

It’s raining.

The criminals are hopefully staying home.
The responsible adults stayed home.

The porch geese dressed for the occasion.

Don’t lie. I know yours has a little yellow raincoat on.

What a beautiful day for a community event! ā˜€ļø

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Children’s Safety Expo today. It was great seeing so many families enjoying the day and spending time together with their community.

It was also awesome getting to meet some of you in person. A few of our top followers stopped by to say hello, and it’s always nice to put a face to a name after chatting in the comments so often.

We had a great time meeting Skates from the Chicago Wolves , and it’s always impressive watching the students from ONG Taekwondo Academy USA put on a performance. Their demonstrations never disappoint!

The weather could not have been better, and we hope you had as much fun as we did.

Here are some of the photos we took throughout the event. If you snapped any fun pictures of your own, drop them in the comments. We’d love to see them!

And can we talk about Ella from the Cook County Sheriff's Office (Official) for a second? She always steals the show. Every. Single. Time. But I can’t blame her, she’s seriously the sweetest.

Which brings me to an important question…

Don’t you think the Harwood Heights Police Department / The Village Of Harwood Heights should get a therapy dog? šŸ‘€

Friday Flashback Files

Totally missed Throwback Thursday yesterday (my brain has not been present this last week)

But we’re digging into the Harwood Heights Police Department archives. (And by that I mean, our photo wall)

Looking at these photos, it’s pretty clear some things have changed over the years… but our uniforms apparently aren’t one of them- I spot that eagle patch!

The faces may be different, the hairstyles may be a little more uh… vintage, and there are definitely a few legendary mustaches in the mix, but the commitment to serving this community remains the same.

Do you recognize anyone in these photos? We’d love to hear your memories in the comments.

I have some fun posts planned for today but before I post any of them, I want to make sure all of are okay from last nights storms. I know it got pretty rough in some areas. I also hope your doggies who get scared are okay too.

That being said, who has cool pictures from last night?

Listen.

I support people decorating their homes however they want.

But porch geese wearing seasonal outfits feels like something that should require a village permit.

I said what I said.
Porch geese making a come back…

Yay or nay?

Friendly Reminder

Tomorrow, if I see you driving a little faster than usual, don’t even try telling me you’re rushing to Starbucks for that limited edition Bearista Cup.

I know it’s only available online. šŸ˜

You can’t fool me.

So save the speeding for your internet connection and keep it legal on the roads. ā˜•āš½

And when they sell out in 14 seconds, please don’t call 911. We can’t help you. šŸ˜‚

06/10/2026

In case you haven’t noticed, there is some severe weather going on right now. Please be safe driving.

…and I swear you better not be reading this in your car! šŸ‘€

Also…. I’m out and seeing garbage cans all over the place. Do you know where yours is??? And it’s still raining so crocs probably aren’t the best shoe to be wearing when you go out.

Parent to parent for a second…

This graphic stopped me in my tracks.

When we’re shopping for swimsuits, most of us are thinking about what our kids like, what’s on sale, or what color looks cute. I don’t think many of us stop and ask, ā€œHow easy would it be to see my child in the water?ā€

The difference is pretty eye-opening.

Bright colors like neon yellow, orange, green, and pink tend to stand out much better in both pools and lakes. Some darker colors and shades of blue can blend into the water surprisingly quickly.

No swimsuit color can replace close supervision, but if there’s an extra step we can take to help keep our kids safe, it’s worth sharing.

As a parent, I know we’re all just trying to make the best decisions we can for our kids. If you’re buying swimwear this summer, this is definitely something to keep in mind.

If this post helps even one parent make a safer choice before heading to the pool or the beach, it’s worth the share. Take a look at the graphic, think about what your kids are wearing this summer, and share this with another parent. It might be information they haven’t seen before.

Stay safe, enjoy the sunshine, and make some great summer memories. ā˜€ļøšŸŠā€ā™€ļøšŸ’™

I have a confession…

I completely forgot to make a social media schedule for this week. 😩

I don’t know what happened.

Maybe it’s because I only had one coffee yesterday.

Maybe it’s because we were so busy that I barely had time to read all of your comments.

Maybe I’ve finally reached the point where my brain has simply clocked out and is refusing to return my calls.

Wait…

Yesterday was Monday.

😳

You know what that means?

Not only did I forget to make the schedule, I forgot to make the schedule on SUNDAY.

🄓

For those keeping score at home, the person who reminds everyone about parking regulations, scams, traffic alerts, school safety, and community events somehow forgot the one thing she does every single week….and not one of you reminded me.

The irony is not lost on me.

So now I’m sitting here on Tuesday trying to figure out what we’re posting this week like a college student who remembered they have a project due in an hour. (Don’t ask me why I used this reference lol)

Help me out.

What do you want to see the rest of this week?

More behind the scenes?
A ridiculous poll?
Trivia?
A Harwood Heights battle?
Officer content?
Safety tips?
Something completely random?

Drop your ideas below.
