DUE TO THE CONTINUED FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINING IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, STRONG WIND GUSTS, AND DRY DORMANT FUELS WABAUNSEE COUNTY WILL BE UNDER A BURN BAN FROM 1AM TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17 TO 1AM FEBRUARY 18.

Wabaunsee County Fire District #3 was awarded a Volunteer Fire Assistance grant from the Kansas Forest Service. With that grant we purchased 4 chainsaws to put on all of our brush trucks. We are grateful for the Kansas Forest Service providing this program.

Due to the windy/dry forecast and red flag warning for Thursday, December 18, 2025 Wabaunsee County is in a burn ban effective immediately, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and continuing all day Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Please check and re-check any thing that you have burnt recently. The wind tomorrow will make it extremely difficult to stop any fire that gets started.

Still looking at our first widespread snow of the year arriving tomorrow, with the bulk of the snow falling from mid morning into early afternoon. Most places will see a general 1-3", though some locally higher totals will be possible.

Even with a lighter snowfall like this one, the first snow of the year can often cause worse issues on the road as people adjust to winter driving conditions. So if you can, consider adjusting travel plans tomorrow!
