Council Meeting Update | Why I Voted the Way I Did

I believe residents deserve to understand not only how I vote, but why!

I voted NO on accepting the annual audit and the FY2026–2027 appropriation ordinance. The City has continued to receive qualified audit opinions, including concerns regarding financial information and documentation that was not provided or could not be sufficiently verified. Before authorizing millions in additional spending, I believe we need stronger accounting measures, internal controls, and financial transparency.

I see the need for investment firsthand—I live around approximately nine abandoned properties. That makes accountability even more important. Every public dollar should translate into measurable improvements for our neighborhoods.

I ABSTAINED on Item 3, involving the rezoning and Special Use Permit. I support responsible economic development, but I wanted a more complete picture before voting. This included the property’s assessed value and financial impact, information regarding the proposed Class 6b property-tax incentive, and what happens if that incentive is not approved. An Economic Development Committee meeting had also been scheduled and canceled, and I believe residents should have had that additional opportunity to hear the proposal and ask questions before the zoning decision.

I voted YES for the purchase of flow meters, the Anchor Heavy Civil water-main contract, and authorization for the City to pursue and accept transportation enhancement funding. Accountability and progress can—and should—exist together.

🌱 Congratulations to Saniyah Brown and Courtni Odom, juniors of Thornton High School, on officially opening their community garden at 156th & Myrtle on August 24, 2026

And on September 25, 2026 we’ll join Harvey Lofts for a community engagement and giveaway event.

My commitment remains the same: responsible investment, transparent government, and measurable progress for Harvey residents.
