This morning, the Harvey Volunteer Fire Company responded to a motor vehicle collision with reported injuries at the intersection of Vulcan Street and Columbo Drive. Responders located an abandoned, running vehicle that had stopped in the front yard of a residential property on Vulcan Street. Shortly after firefighters found a second home on Columbo that had been struck by the vehicle.
Upon inspection, firefighters confirmed the home was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Following notification from neighbors, the homeowner granted explicit permission to enter the premises for a structural damage assessment. The impact compromised a load-bearing wall, prompting an immediate notification to the local code enforcement office.
After ensuring the structure was stabilized and coordinating with Entergy to secure electrical utilities, the scene was officially transferred to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) to conduct the official investigation.
