The Rotary Club is a humanitarian service organization which brings together business and professional leaders in order to provided community service, promote integrity and advance goodwill, peace and understanding in the world. The Rotary is a non-political and non-religious organization. Membership is by invitation and is based on various social factors. There are over 46,000 member clubs worldwide with a membership of 1.4 million individuals, known as "Rotarians". A Rotarians motto is "Service above Self" and they are guided by the "four way test":

Rotary Club of Hartwell is sponsoring a Document Destruction Day on Saturday, September 26 at NEGA Bank parking lot. The event is open to the public! Starts at 10:00-12:00. Please take a look at the flyer for all the information! We will have volunteers on hand to help you unload your files. No pick-up trucks full of documents, please! Contact any Rotarian for more information.

Thursday, September 3 we had a very special meeting. We celebrated Mr. Joe Whittemore who has over 55 years as a Rotarian, including a year as 6910 District Governor. We also celebrated September birthday’s, which included Kevin McCraney Mike Bolet visiting past District Governor Rich Panyik, Nancy, and Joe who celebrated his 90th birthday. We had several speakers talk about their years in Rotary with Joe. Polio Plus District Chair, Bill Strickland presented Joe with a letter for his “Service Above Self” for his many years raising money for Polio Plus. The letter was signed by the Rotary International President. Joe and Pat will be moving to Athens soon, but he will not be leaving Rotary. Our club loss is one of the Athen’s Club gain! Thank you to all the guests who came to the meeting to honor this special Rotarian.

Lavonia Rotary Club Cardboard Boat Regatta. Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10-12. The Rotary Club of Hartwell invites you to participate in this race. The Lavonia Club is a satellite Club of Hartwell. This is a fundraiser for Lavonia. If you can 't build a boat, come out and watch the fun on the 19th!

Yesterday was a fun day at our Rotary meeting! Brian shared the true meaning of fellowship, reminding us what a close-knit group we are. He spoke on the purpose and symbolism behind the Rotary wheel and how it reflects the friendship we share.

We were then treated to a special guest, Kevin Gaines, principal of Hart County High School, who talked about the lessons he's learned over the years, both about the job and about himself. We are so lucky and proud to have him leading our school!

No meeting next week. We'll return on September 3rd at Cateechee.

Contributions to the Rotary Foundation by members of the Rotary Club of Hartwell help support the 7 areas of focus around the world. Our Club receives a portions of our contributions back each year to use for local projects in the area. These funds, coupled with funds received from our club fundraisers, help us to make a difference in our community.

This week at our Rotary meeting, we welcomed two new members to the club, Rafe Maxwell and Jan Sturgeon! Amanda was especially excited to welcome Rafe, since the two are cousins. Jan was first invited to join us by Debbie Kulcsar.

Fellowship was led by Jim McMullan, who talked about how his neighborhood has changed over the years, along with the many reasons behind what we do in Rotary and the causes we support.

Our program featured Steve Burton, CEO of Hart College and Career Academy and CTAE Director, who shared the latest updates and information about career pathways. Over the summer, Hart County brought home the gold! Congratulations to Jimmy Reynolds for winning the National Championship in Marine Service Technology at the SkillsUSA National Conference, and to Marine Technology instructor Tyler Floyd. The academy also excels in work-based learning, helping students build practical skills and earn credits toward their future. The academy's goal is to prepare students for one of the four Es: enrolled, enlisted, employed, or entrepreneur.

Last week at our Rotary meeting, we celebrated our August birthdays together. Nancy shared some exciting news: our club received an Epic Award for our efforts in Public Image. Theo encouraged everyone to share something they were happy about, and we went around the room celebrating a little good news from each other's lives.

Grayson then introduced our program for the week, Hart County football head coach Biff Parson, who joined us to talk with the club.

Spent Saturday in Clarksville, GA at Rotary Learning Institute. Our District Governor Elect, Allen Bowns believes in having fun and promoting Rotary! You can’t miss his car, or his suit! President Elect Grayson finished session 1. Nancy & Debbie graduated in session 3! RLI starts with learning the basics of Rotary to how to make a difference. Meeting new friends from across the district and getting new ideas for your club is what these sessions are all about . Join us on Thursday at Cateechee at 12:15 if you want to know more about Hartwell Rotary.

Back-To-School Blast at HCHS. Our club collected pencils. Thank you to all our members who donated the pencils. We are Rotarians at Work! Serving our community. Thanks to Mike E, Grayson, Chris, Mike B, Jim, and our volunteer Marguerette. Every pencil was gone. Thanks to the Chamber for setting up this successful event.
