On this week's US Drought Monitor map all areas of Tennessee are now in drought, with a little over 86% of the state in Severe to Extreme Drought (D2 or D3).
Thankfully there is much needed rain in the forecast so drought conditions will likely improve somewhat on next week's map.

While winds and RHs are not expected to reach Red Flag criteria
levels, humidity values are expected to drop into the low 30s east
of I-65 and winds will occasionally gust to 25 mph this afternoon.
With little rain recently, drought conditions will continue to
worsen, but wetting rains are expected Thursday and Saturday this
week.

Elevated fire danger conditions are expected this weekend due to drought, dry fuels, and wind. A small spark can lead to a rapidly spreading wildfire.

Here's how you can help keep our community safe:
✅ Do not burn without a burn permit; we will not issue permits where conditions are unsafe
✅ Avoid outdoor burning
✅ Don't park vehicles on dry grass
✅ Keep grills and fire pits away from structures
✅ Make sure ci******es are fully extinguished

Please be aware

Fuels continue to lose moisture and we can expect a steady increase in our ERC’s with low humidity, warm temperatures, and moderate winds today. Due to our drying trend and elevated fire weather conditions, the district restriction for burn permits has been extended. No burn permits will be issued for Cumberland District today.
