Joe Rice was a dear friend, and I am heartbroken to learn of his passing. I have known Joe for many years. Just this past May, we shared a panel offering advice to a group of law students preparing to graduate. He implored them to take on meaningful fights and to be advocates in the truest sense of the word. Man, did he live that message. Every bit of it.

Joe was a legal titan, not just for South Carolina but for our country and for the American civil justice system itself. He took on the fights others wouldn't touch, and people who will never know his name are safer because he did.

Rest well, my friend.

The co-founder of Motley Rice was known as a shrewd negotiator who was instrumental in settling numerous high-profile legal cases, from the Big To***co lawsuits to the opioid litigation. Rice also loved USC.

I'm deeply honored to share that I've been named the 2026 Advocate of the Year by the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, and will be presented with the Rev. Sen. Clementa C. Pinckney Award for Justice.
SC Appleseed has spent decades standing up for working families and everyday South Carolinians, and it's been a privilege to work alongside that mission throughout my career. This recognition means even more given its connection to my dear friend, the late Senator Clementa Pinckney, whose legacy continues to guide so much of this work.
I'd love for you to join me and SC Appleseed for this special evening. Thank you to the Board of Directors for this humbling honor.

Big congratulations to my friend Colonel Christopher Williamson on receiving the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
Chris has spent nearly 40 years serving our state, rising to become the first African-American commander of the SC Highway Patrol in 2017. He’s led with integrity, compassion, and a genuine love for the people of South Carolina. Well deserved.

Big thanks to Hartsville Police.

Our Hartsville Police School Resource Officers had a wonderful time spending the afternoon with students and families at the Back to School Bash Extravaganza, presented by Malloy Law Firm, at Hartsville High School.

From enjoying hot dogs, chips, and drinks to catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones, it was the perfect way to get everyone excited for the school year ahead.

A big thank you to Gerald Malloy for putting together such a fun event. We can't wait to see everyone back in the classrooms and are looking forward to another fantastic school year!

Yesterday was one for the books! The Back To School Extravaganza was a huge success, and it's all because of the people who poured their time and energy into making it happen. Thank you to everyone who helped out.

A special shoutout to my wife, Davita, for leading the charge and pulling it all together, as she always does. None of this happens without her.
