Seasonal Burn Ban Begins May 1

Beginning May 1, a mandatory burn ban will be in effect across Morgan County through October 31. This seasonal regulation, imposed by Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), prohibits open burning of yard debris, brush, wood, and land-clearing waste in order to reduce air pollution and help prevent wildfires. The ban, which is designed to protect air quality, includes Baldwin, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, Morgan, Russell, Shelby, and Talladega counties.

If you have debris that needs to be burned, now is the time to do so safely, while weather conditions still allow. Always check the forecast, follow local safety guidelines, and never leave a fire unattended.

Key Details:
β€’ Effective Dates: May 1 – October 31
β€’ Prohibited: Burning of brush, trash, yard debris, and land-clearing materials
β€’ Exceptions: Small, attended campfires or grills are generally allowed if used safely and legally
β€’ Alternatives: Consider composting or using approved landfill disposal services
β€’ Enforcement: Violations may result in fines

Thank you for doing your part to keep Morgan County safe!
