On this 25th anniversary, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the first responders who answered the call and reflect on the lasting impact of that day on our community, our nation and our world.

As time passes, it becomes increasingly important to preserve the memories and personal experiences of those who lived through September 11 and share them with generations who have grown up in its aftermath. At Woodlands Middle High School, Mr. Holland’s IB History HL 2 students had the opportunity to do just that as he began class by sharing his own memories of the attacks.

Like so many in our community, Mr. Holland had several personal connections to the World Trade Center, including his mother-in-law, who safely evacuated from her office in the South Tower. As he shared her story and his own experiences, students listened thoughtfully and learned not only about the events of that day, but also about the profound effects they had on our country and the world.

After 25 years, the memories remain. We will never forget the victims, their families, the heroes who responded and all those whose lives were forever changed.

Today marks one full week since school started here in GCSD! Over the past five school days, Superintendent Dr. Lorenda Chisolm visited one school each day, greeting staff, welcoming students and connecting with building leaders.

These visits were not only an opportunity to celebrate the start of a new school year, but also to gain a firsthand understanding of what is happening in each building, identify areas of need and ensure students, staff and building leaders have the support they need to succeed throughout the year.

This was a week of listening, observing and working in partnership, not only for Dr. Chisolm but for the entire school community. With the first five days of the 2026-27 school year in the books, we're looking forward to what's ahead! 🦅

All aboard the bus! 🚌 New beginnings are ahead!

Tomorrow, the rest of our Early Childhood Program students will have their first day of school. Not just their first day of school this year, but their first day of school ever! While many of our older students are now experts at navigating aspects of the school experience like riding the bus, walking in a line or spending the day away from home, these will all be brand-new experiences for many of our Pre-K Junior Falcons.

This morning at ECP, students and their families visited the ECP main building for a meet-and-greet and bus orientation. ECP Administrator Jessica Bandel welcomed families and provided an overview of what they need to know as their little learners begin their ECP journey. Then came the moment many students were waiting for: a school bus test run! Students climbed aboard for a brief tour around campus while their moms, dads and caregivers proudly waited for them to return.

Back at the main building, students and families met their teachers, connected with the PTA and got answers to their questions about what to expect tomorrow. One first-day experience is already under their belts, and now our Junior Falcons are ready for the next big step: their very first day of school!

Happy Friday, Falcons! 🦅
