FOUND DOG

A Hartley resident had a dog in their yard and we are hoping to find the owner. The resident is going to keep the dog at their home until the owner is found. The pet has a tag that says Piper. If this is your dog or if you know who’s it is please reach out to us.

SCAM ALERT:

A Hartley resident had a pop-up on their phone while opening a social media app advising them of a charge on their apple ID for a subscription they didn't know anything about. They couldn't close the pop-up or the app. They called the help number which lead to someone portraying to be a help line and then someone portraying to be a bank executive asking for private personal information and bank information. The resident contacted their bank and were advised the charges being reported weren't real and they were using them in an attempt to get private information to gain access to their accounts.

If you get this pop-up DO NOT call the number or give any personal information to anyone over the phone. You have to restart your device for the pop-up to go away. After that you should contact your bank to ensure the charges reported weren't real and also contact your local authorities.

UPDATE: Corrections have been made on this post regarding fireworks in city limits on New Years Eve. The original post was made with the original ordinance, seeing there was an amendment made in June this post has been updated accordingly. We apologize for any confusion have a happy new year!

2026 is coming and the Hartley Police Department wants to make sure you all get into the new year safely! So here’s a few reminders!

Fireworks are legal inside city limits on New Year’s Eve from 9am to 12:30am the immediate followng day. This was amended in June of this year and can be read below

Don’t drink and drive! Not only is it illegal, it’s a dangerous choice to be made for not only yourself but others. Enjoy your New Year’s parties but please have a safe way to get back home!

Update: 9:10 pm - Visibility has improved throughout O'Brien County. There are still some areas around Hartley with decreased visibility. Please travel with caution and be prepared for areas with drifting snow. Thank you for your patience today while this severe weather was traveling through our area. Thank you!

Update: 4:12 pm - Visibility has improved in some areas of O'Brien County (western and southern side of county). There are still areas in O'Brien County where traveling is very difficult (north central and north eastern side of the county). There have been multiple waves of reduced visibility. Please stay safe!

Update: 3:20 pm - Road conditions remain dangerous around the north side of O'Brien County. We have received reports of multiple cars in ditches. The visibility can change quickly due to the increased wind and random increased pockets of snowfall. Please stay safe!

Update: 2:12 pm - The weather conditions may remain the same for the next 1-3 hours. For school updates: please monitor for updates from your school's website / social media / and/or any text alerts from the school. Road conditions remain dangerous in multiple areas throughout the county. Additional pockets of snow may arrive over the next few hours creating low visibility situations due to the increased wind speed in different areas. Snow predicted to end around 5:00 pm. Please stay safe!

Update: 1:34 pm - HWY 18 closed in multiple areas in O'Brien County due to traffic accidents blocking the roadway.

O'Brien County Emergency Alert: NO Travel Advised in O'Brien County. The current road conditions are very dangerous due to limited to zero visibility. We have multiple accidents going on throughout the county. Please stay safe! (No travel advised: 1:00 pm - 12-18-2025)

As this winter weather moves in please remember -

Snow Removal Parking Ordinance:
69.13 SNOW REMOVAL. No person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or City-owned off-street parking area during snow removal operations unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley or parking area and the snow has ceased to fall.

Also, please keep an eye on road conditions as you travel for the holiday weekend as travel conditions could worsen as this storm passes through.
