VTAC The Veterans Treatment Assistance Corps (VTAC) is a heartfelt 501c3 non-profit organization nestled in Livingston County.

We're on a mission to bring healing and hope to veterans through providing therapy and service dogs along with emergency financial assistance to participants in Veterans Treatment Court We are a dedicated team of veterans and community volunteers passionately committed to supporting our judicially involved veterans in crisis, guiding them towards steps that enhance their well-being. Our mission in

cludes providing emergency financial assistance to veteran participants in Veterans Treatment Court, allowing them to concentrate on their recovery while they work towards securing long-term financial support. A growing aspect of our mission is to offer service dogs to veterans in need. These remarkable animals can greatly enhance the lives of veterans by delivering physical aid, emotional support, and assisting in managing mental health issues such as PTSD. Additionally, we provide therapy dogs for treatment courts across Southeast Michigan, as studies have shown that therapy dogs effectively reduce anxiety and stress for veterans during legal proceedings.

VTAC is proud to share a heartwarming update about one of our incredible service dogs. Originally trained for a veteran, Luke was recently reassigned due to a change in the veteran’s health. In true VTAC fashion, this transition was handled with care, compassion, and a focus on continuing his mission of service. Luke has now been renamed Duke and is serving a disabled young man who is a relative of a veteran.

This story is a beautiful reminder that when circumstances change, the mission of service doesn’t end; it simply finds a new path.

Duke’s journey from veteran support to empowering a young disabled family member highlights VTAC’s ongoing commitment to making a positive, lasting impact in the lives of those connected to our veteran community.

Veterans and their families can now schedule free in-county non-medical rides! As transportation needs within our community continue to grow, we've expanded our transportation program to offer flexibility for veterans that will significantly enhance their quality of life.

Eligible non-medical trips may include, but are not limited to, grocery shopping, prescription pickup, employment-related transportation, bill payment, banking, and participation in recreational or senior programs.

To schedule a ride:
1. A passenger must provide a DD Form 214 showing an “Honorable” discharge to LCVS prior to scheduling their first ride.
2. To schedule your ride, call LETS at (517) 546-6600. When you reach a Dispatcher, mention your veteran status.
• Non-medical rides within the county can be scheduled up to one week in advance.
• Rides for medical appointments within a 50-mile radius of the LCVS office can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance of the appointment.

Overall, this initiative represents a proactive, community-focused response to a growing transportation need and positions us to better serve veterans across Livingston County. If you or someone you know is a veteran, call us at (517) 546-6338 to learn more about available benefits.
