An impactful winter weather system is expected to impact the region on Sunday. Snow amounts up to 3 inches are possible with highest amounts in far northeast Nebraska and west-central Iowa. Strong north-northwesterly wind gusts in the 55-65 mph range will lead to periodic whiteout conditions in areas of snowfall with visibility dropping below a quarter mile. Travel may become very difficult.

Frigid wind chills will impact the area Monday morning, with values expected in the 10 below to 25 degrees below zero range.

Cedar County is in a Winter Storm Watch. Stay tuned to your local broadcast media for further details at the storm develops. Expect hazardous travel condition with Blizzard like conditions on Sunday in areas where the snow is falling.
Be sure to have your winter survival kit in your vehicle.

A powerful winter storm is forecast to bring strong winds and snow on Sunday. We'll see precipitation start as rain Saturday evening, turning to snow by Sunday morning. Winds ramp up as rain turns to snow Sunday morning, creating the potential for whiteout conditions Sunday morning through the afternoon. Once the snow moves out, we expect very cold temperatures Monday morning before temperatures trend back up the rest of the week.

The Governor has banned all open burning for the next 14 days. See below:
Open Burn Ban

Effective immediately the Governor has issued an Executive Order that bans the issuance of Open Burn Permits for 14 days. The Executive Order prohibits any fire chief or person designated by the fire chief from granting an open burn permit for any purpose. Any existing burn permit that has not been completed is null and void and open burning is not permitted for 14 consecutive days beginning now.

This order will be reviewed prior to its termination to determine the need to extend the ban. Further information will be provided prior to that date.

The Executive Order document will be issued later today when all required parties have signed it.

Thanks
