Power Restored – Highland Park Area

If you experienced a power outage this morning in the Highland Park area, it was caused by a pine limb that broke a power line.

Our crews responded quickly, and we are happy to report that all power has now been restored.

We would also like to recognize Apprentice Lineman Seth Wiggins for his hard work and dedication in helping restore service. We appreciate his commitment to keeping the lights on for our community.

If you are still without power, please contact Dispatch as soon as possible so we can send the appropriate personnel to your location.

City of Hartford Landfill Notice

Due to the City’s knuckle boom truck currently being out of service, the City of Hartford will temporarily waive landfill disposal fees for residents living within the Hartford city limits for eligible items taken directly to the City landfill.

If you are able to transport the items yourself in a pickup truck or trailer, you may dispose of the following items at no charge:

* Organic yard debris
* Household furniture (mattresses, couches, chairs, dressers, etc.)
* Similar bulky household items

Please note: Residents must call City Hall to schedule a time before bringing materials to the landfill. This allows us to ensure staff are available to assist and the landfill is open for your visit.

This temporary fee waiver will remain in effect until the knuckle boom truck has been repaired and returned to service.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get the truck back in operation and resume normal bulky waste collection.

Please contact City Hall to schedule your landfill drop-off appointment.

To stay ahead of the threat of severe weather expected tomorrow afternoon and to operate as efficiently as possible, the Sanitation Department will be working in the Williams Circle, Line Street, and Span Street areas today.

If you are on the Thursday trash collection route and live in one of these areas, your garbage will be picked up today while our crew is in the area.

⚠️ Public Service Announcement – Garbage Collection Safety ⚠️

The City of Hartford Sanitation Department would like to remind all residents that certain items should NEVER be placed in household garbage containers.

Yesterday, a lawn mower battery was placed in a residential garbage can and caused a small fire inside one of our garbage trucks. Fortunately, no one was injured, but incidents like this can put our employees, equipment, and the public at risk.

❌ Do NOT place the following items in your garbage container:

* Lawn mower batteries
* Car and truck batteries
* Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries
* Power tool batteries
* Vehicle fluids (gasoline, oil, antifreeze)
* Paints, solvents, and chemicals
* Propane tanks
* Fireworks or explosives
* Hot ashes or coals
* Any hazardous materials

✅ Proper Disposal

Many batteries and hazardous materials can be taken to approved recycling centers, automotive parts stores, or designated disposal facilities.

Help Keep Our Employees Safe

A single battery can spark and ignite trash inside a collection truck, creating a dangerous situation for sanitation workers and causing costly damage to equipment. Please take a moment to ensure only approved household garbage is placed in your container.

Due to delays in today’s collection schedule, the Friday trash route is running behind. All trash on the Friday route will still be picked up today, but collection will occur later this afternoon than normal.

🚧 NOTICE: ALABAMA FIBER NETWORK BORING PROJECT 🚧

Residents may notice crews working throughout town as Alabama Fiber Network begins boring operations for new fiber installation. Please use caution in these areas and be mindful of workers and equipment.

The planned route is as follows:

• E. Mill Street west to 2nd Avenue
• 2nd Avenue south to Fulton Street
• Fulton Street west to 3rd Avenue
• 3rd Avenue south to Lily Street
• Lily Street west to 6th Avenue
• 6th Avenue south to the Elementary School parking lot

The yellow line on the map below shows the planned boring route through town.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this project as infrastructure improvements are made for our community.
