Urban League of Greater Hartford Young Professionals

Urban League of Greater Hartford Young Professionals The ULGH-YP aims to empower individuals, through volunteerism, philanthropy, and professional development, to have meaningful impacts in our communities.

For the past 14 years, the Urban League of Greater Hartford Young Professionals (YP), has been proud and committed to serving as an auxiliary of the Urban League of Greater Hartford (ULGH). Our mission is to support the ULGH’s mission to reduce economic disparities in our communities through programs, services and educational opportunities; and to serve as a source of empowerment for young profess

ionals within the Greater Hartford area. YP’s work to deliver on our mission is rooted in supporting our affiliate and building a strong pipeline of leaders dedicated to the Urban League Movement. Our support comes in the form of signature programming such as our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math or STEAM Career Expo and our First Day, the Right Way! Back to School Backpack Giveaway and Community Event. Our annual STEAM Career Expo is designed to provide hands on exploration and interaction for students with professionals in these career fields. This event is also intended to build a pipeline of diverse students for these fields. Our “First Day, the Right Way! back to school event is designed to proactively and productively address the economic disparities that remain prevalent within our communities. At this event, students receive a backpack filled with school supplies to hopefully get them through the school year, and families receive valuable information on services provided by ULGH and other local community partners. Annually, we provide approximately 400 backpacks to students and families during this event. YP members are provided development opportunities to grow and lead both professionally and personally during our General Body Meetings and civic engagement events. Additionally, our signature Brunch and Banter series and YP Fridays provide both healthy community dialogue and networking opportunities. Volunteer, mentoring and other community service projects round out our list of membership development activities. We are proud to bean organization that is dedicated to Empowering Communities and Changing Lives! Please join us on this mission in support for our communities.

Connecting leaders. Building impact. 💼✨

President Luz Holmes-Padgett and our Parliamentarian Jordan Long represented us at Professional Young Volunteers of Today’s (PYVOT) Board Night on April 8—an energizing evening focused on connecting young professionals with meaningful board and committee service opportunities.

From engaging with local nonprofits to exploring pathways for leadership and service, the night was all about stepping into purpose and giving back to the community. This year’s event also featured a collaboration with Leadership Greater Hartford, highlighting their Leaders On Board program—a powerful (and free) resource for those ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

📸 Swipe through for moments from the night—featuring Luz and Jordan, group connections, and candid highlights.
