It shouldn’t be this hard to find a good job in Connecticut. But unemployment is rising faster here than anywhere in America. Why? Because Democrats made this the most expensive place to work, hire and raise a family.

For six straight months, Connecticut's unemployment rate has climbed. It now sits at 5.2%, a full percentage point above the national rate, with nearly 98,000 residents out of work.

This did not happen by accident. Years of Democrat control have made Connecticut one of the most expensive states in the country to live in and one of the hardest places to run a business. When employers are burdened by high energy costs, high taxes and endless mandates, they are forced to stop hiring. When they stop hiring, our neighbors are the ones left searching.

CT Senate Republicans put a $1.5 billion affordability plan on the table to cut taxes, eliminate the car tax, end the Public Benefits Charge and lower electric rates. Democrats rejected all of it.

A new U.S. News & World Report nationally ranks Connecticut 46th in opportunity and 47th in fiscal stability. These results should concern every taxpayer, family, and business owner in our state.

These rankings didn’t happen by accident. They are the direct result of years of Democrats’ reckless spending, out-of-touch policies and a complete failure to address the affordability crisis they created. While hardworking families struggle with soaring costs, high taxes and some of the highest utility bills in the nation, Gov. Lamont continues to defend the status quo.

Connecticut has incredible potential, but we’ll never reach it with policies that drive up costs, push families and businesses away, and leave our state near the bottom of the national rankings.

Connecticut deserves better.
