On behalf of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combatting Antisemitism, Rep. Kathy Manning (NC-06) and Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04) authored a letter urging the Department of Education to combat increasing antisemitism on campus. According to surveys, one-third of Jewish students reported antisemitic incidents, while the Department of Education's own reporting suggests antisemitism on campus has almost doubled.
The letter urges the Department to apply Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, continue collecting data, and increase technical assistance to campuses and communities to help address the challenge. Many of the included recommendations are derived from the U.S. National Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.
Please click on the following action alert from the Jewish Federations of North America urging Connecticut's congressional delegation to sign the bipartisan letter to the Department of Education.

Please join JFACT in reaching out to our Congressional delegation to sign onto a bipartisan letter which asks the Secretary of Education to take further action to fight antisemitism on college campuses.

On behalf of the Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut, we wish Rep. Khan a speedy recovery from the reprehensible attack on her. An attack on the Muslim community is an attack on all of our communities.

A JFACT supported bill just passed the House, in concurrence with the Senate, and now heads to the Governor's desk. SB 217 would create (1) create a Hate Crimes Investigative Unit within the State Police and establish its duties; (2) require development of a reporting system, best practices and a model investigation policy for law enforcement units regarding hate crimes; (3) establish time requirements for law enforcement units to report hate crimes to the Hate Crimes Investigative Unit; and (4) designate the head of the unit as a member of the State-Wide Hate Crimes Advisory Council.

Great job State Rep. Maria Horn and State Sen. Cathy Osten for your leadership on this issue.

Today, JFACT is proud to submit testimony to the Public Safety committee in support of SB217 HATE CRIMES INVESTIGATIVE UNIT WITHIN THE DIVISION OF STATE POLICE AND REQUIRING DEVELOPMENT OF A REPORTING SYSTEM, BEST PRACTICES AND A MODEL INVESTIGATION POLICY FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT UNITS REGARDING HATE CRIMES.

Hate Crimes are on the rise in Connecticut and the country. Our law enforcement and our communities need additional tools to deal with this crisis. This legislation would be a big step forward in combatting hate crimes.
