Wes Kyle, MD, EMS Medical Director at Saint Mary's Hospital, shares why the launch of our new whole blood program is such an important advancement in emergency care.

Whole blood transfusion remains very rare in Connecticut, and Saint Mary’s Hospital is proud to be one of the first in the state to implement this lifesaving approach. Dr. Kyle explains how whole blood allows care teams to act more quickly for patients experiencing severe blood loss—helping stabilize patients sooner during some of their most critical moments.

This program reflects our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and improving outcomes for the patients and families who rely on us when seconds matter most.

Our multidisciplinary trauma team attended the annual Connecticut Trauma Conference at Mohegan Sun, where we participated in a variety of educational sessions, including case presentations and discussions on topics such as violence mitigation, trauma in pregnancy, and trauma care in UFC fighting.

The conference brought together local, regional, and national experts to share insights in trauma, critical care, and injury prevention, providing a valuable opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the state and strengthen our approach to care across the continuum.

We were proud to have Dr. Posillico close out the conference with a case presentation that showcased the exceptional quality of trauma care delivered at Saint Francis Hospital.
