💙 BOBBY’S WAY 💙

On Sunday, September 6, we invite our community to join us for a special ceremony at Hartford Police Headquarters as High Street is honorarily renamed “Bobby’s Way” in memory of Detective Robert “Bobby” Garten.

Detective Garten joined the Hartford Police Department in 2015 as a member of Academy Class 2015-1. During his eight years of service, Bobby served in Patrol, the North Street Crimes Unit, and the Marine Unit. He was known for his kindness, dedication, sense of humor, and ability to connect with those around him.

On September 6, 2023, Bobby was killed in the line of duty.

Three years later, his name, his sacrifice, and the legacy he left behind will remain a permanent part of Hartford.

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT, OFFICER VINCENZO “VINNY” MARFELLA! 🎉

Born and raised in Hartford and a graduate of Hartford schools, Officer Vincenzo “Vinny” Marfella began his career with the Hartford Police Department as a Cadet in 2001.

After graduating with the Class of 2002, Vinny served the city in several roles throughout his career, including Patrol, the Park Street walking beat, Community Service Officer, and Business Service Officer.

Vinny would ultimately spend the final chapter of his career with the Hartford Police Activities League (PAL) — a role where his impact extended far beyond traditional police work. Through PAL, Vinny dedicated himself to Hartford’s youth, building relationships, mentoring young people, and creating positive connections between our officers, children, and families throughout the city.

For someone born and raised in Hartford, finishing his career helping guide and support the next generation of Hartford kids was a fitting conclusion to more than two decades of service.

We congratulate Officer Marfella on his retirement and thank him for his commitment to the Hartford Police Department, our youth, and the entire City of Hartford.

Enjoy retirement, Vinny — you’ve earned it! 💙🚔👏

🚨 FIREARM ARREST / STOLEN FIREARM RECOVERED 🚨

On August 27, 2026, members of the Hartford Police Street Crimes Unit observed an individual trespassing at a business on Farmington Avenue.

When officers approached to investigate, the individual walked away while disregarding repeated commands to stop before fleeing on foot and discarding a backpack. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect without further incident.

Officers recovered the discarded backpack and located a stolen semi-automatic handgun inside.

The suspect, a previously convicted felon, was placed under arrest.

Charges:

• Trespass in the Third Degree
• Interfering with Police
• Pistol Without a Permit
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
• Theft of a Firearm

Evidence Recovered

• R***r EC9s 9mm firearm
• Magazine containing 5 live 9mm rounds
• Firearm reported stolen from Middletown, Connecticut
