JFHQ Joint Force Headquarters - Connecticut Army National Guard This is page is the official page for Connecticut Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters. Government Organization

The Connecticut Army National Guard was originally formed in 1672. During the War of 1812, the Federalist state government refused to place the state militia under control of the Democratic-Republican national government, which resulted in friction, especially following British attacks on New London and Stonington. The Militia Act of 1903 organized the various state militias into the present National Guard system.

Today Joint Force Headquarters participated in their annual APFT event consisting of push ups, sit ups, and a 2 mile run. This will be the last APFT the unit takes. Physical fitness training will begin to incorporate and train for the new ACFT. The running joke at lunch was “Well, I’ll never fail an APFT again”

Congratulations to All Guard Service Rifle Team member SSG John Coggshall on winning the 2019 President’s Rifle Trophy. With a final score of 390 out of 400 points possible, SSG Coggshall bested the field of over 1000 competitors after making the top 20 Finalists and holding off last year’s champion. This year’s match was marked by very challenging wind conditions. Two other National Guard competitors, MAJ Kirk Freeman and SGT John Daniels, also received the prestigious President’s 100 Tab.

Warrant Officer Candidate Crystal Strid is a Human Resource Specialist in the Connecticut Army National Guard. She recently decided to become a warrant officer candidate to expand her career by becoming a subject matter expert and help make a positive impact in her field. Strid started her warrant officer candidate process by logging on to the Army Recruiting Site at recruiting.army.mil to see if her military occupation speciality matched up with the requirements to become a warrant officer. She then met with the state Warrant Officer Strength Manager who helped guide her through the rest of the process of gathering recommendations, filling out a warrant officer resume and deciding what school options would fit her best. Strid claims the overall process isn't hard and if anyone has any questions or needs help with their packet they can reach out to her at [email protected] or contact their state Warrant Officer Strength Manager.
