The Department of Development Services works to create a more vibrant, livable, and sustainable Hartford.

In collaboration with the residents of Connecticut’s Capital City, the Department of Development Services (DDS) manages, promotes, and facilitates physical development and land use in the City of Hartford. DDS is also charged with helping to craft an action plan for new and prospective businesses within the City that is consistent with the Mayor’s vision for future infrastructure improvements and job development opportunities. Our Department is comprised of six divisions:

- Blight Remediation & Housing Code Enforcement
- Economic Development
- Housing
- Licenses & Inspections
- Planning & Zoning
- Small Business & Community Development

Each of these divisions work together to create an environment that is conducive to business growth and retention and dedicated to improving the quality of life within our community.

Join us for a community workshop on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30–7:30 PM at the Hartford Public Library's Downtown Library, located at 500 Main Street, Hartford, CT.

The event will take place within the Travelers Center for Arts & Culture Auditorium within the Library. Come meet the project team, share your ideas, and learn about the Paths and Trails Connectivity Plan — the City's effort to build a safer, better-connected network of parks, paths, and trails for everyone who walks, bikes, rolls, or rides.

Hey Hartford!

*NOTIFICATION* for Improvements at the Intersection of US 44 at Main/High/Ely Streets

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) through the Greater Hartford Mobility Program (GHMP) is actively working on several projects that would improve driver, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety.

One of these projects (State Project No.63-745) proposes to improve safety and traffic flow at the U.S.

Route 44 (Albany Avenue) intersection with Main Street, High Street, and Ely Street in Hartford. The current conditions cause poor traffic operations and long pedestrian crossings.

• Safety improvements for passenger vehicles are proposed at the intersection of Albany Avenue and Pleasant Street, and pedestrian safety improvements are proposed at the intersection of Main Street and Belden Street.

• This project is in the early design stage, with construction expected to begin in2028.
