We have proudly provided essential fire protection, emergency medical response, and rescue services to our community since 1979. Our mission is simple: to protect lives, property, and agriculture through prompt, professional, and compassio

nate service. Whether it’s responding to a fire, aiding in a medical emergency, or educating the public on fire prevention, our volunteers are always ready to act when our community needs us most. We take pride in fostering a strong connection with the people in our community, offering a range of community services, including fire safety education, community events, and volunteer opportunities. Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire & Rescue is more than just a fire department—we are a family dedicated to the well-being of our neighbors. We believe in building a safer, more resilient community, and we invite you to join us in this mission, whether through volunteering, attending one of our events, or simply learning more about fire safety. We are 100% volunteer and have two stations serving as first due to approximately 50 square miles in Cocke County, Tennessee. Our approximately 35 members provide services to the communities of Grassy Fork and Hartford, 7 miles of Interstate 40 just west of the Tennessee/North Carolina state line, as well as provide mutual and automatic aid services to the communities of Cosby, Del Rio, Mount Sterling, 10 miles of Interstate 40 in North Carolina and the Big Creek area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our members also provide fire safety education to the students at the Grassy Fork Elementary School as well as host community events such as the annual Grassy Fork/Hartford Fall Festival and the Pigeon River 5K. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued from 6 PM EDT today through 2 PM EDT Saturday.

Isolated to scattered showers and storms will continue to increase in coverage and intensity this evening, with rainfall expected into Saturday.

Rain rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour can be expected at times, in the heaviest showers and storms. Due to recent saturated soils and high rain rates, isolated flash flooding is possible for some areas, especially across areas that see repeated rounds of showers and storms.

Due to the scattered nature of the convection, it's hard to say where the highest rainfall amounts will occur. Some areas within the Flash Flood Watch will see several inches of rain, and some may see little to none. Areas that see training and repeated rounds of convection, could see upwards of 3 to 5 inches.

Engine 17-2 responded tonight with 6 personnel to an automatic aid structure fire assisting Cosby Volunteer Fire Department. Crews worked alongside Cosby Volunteer Fire Department, Cocke County Fire Department and Pitman Center Volunteer Fire Department to support fire suppression and overhaul operations on scene. We appreciate the dedication of all personnel involved and the continued automatic and mutual aid partnerships that help protect our communities.
