Members of the Connecticut Police & Fire Union participated in a press conference yesterday to unveil legislation aimed at recruiting and retaining firefighters and police officers. We urge the General Assembly to pass this bill in some form, thereby enabling police and fire departments across the state to retain and attract highly qualified first responders.

On Friday, January 9, 2026, the Connecticut Police and Fire Union (CPFU) was honored to be invited to the Connecticut State Capitol for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Secretary/Treasurer Liam O’Brien addressed attendees, expressing gratitude to our dedicated members as well as to Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon and his staff.

Comptroller Scanlon has been a strong advocate for public safety and has played an instrumental role in advancing legislation that protects and supports our members. His continued commitment to law enforcement and first responders has made a meaningful impact across the state.

The Connecticut Police and Fire Union extends its sincere thanks to our brother and sister officers in law enforcement—both here in Connecticut and across the nation—and to Comptroller Scanlon and his staff for their unwavering support of our members.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

We understand this may be an obvious announcement, but we had hoped limiting our public messaging would help lead to progress at the bargaining table.

Unfortunately despite our best efforts, Office of Governor Ned Lamont has failed to deliver meaningful proposals at the bargaining table. Over the course of the last 12 months, his staff have routinely delayed and slow walked any semblance of a real negotiation with . Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Parks Staff and Security Forces have been shown that the governor doesn't have a clear desire to work with us. As we welcome the new year, we are now six months without a contract, and clearly that wont change soon.

Governor, as we have told you dozens of times, we remain ready to make a deal. Our proposals have been fair and honest.

To protect our members interests, we began to prepare for arbitration two months ago. Given the continued lack of any efforts from the Governor and his team, we must now publicly announce we will let a neutral arbitrator decide.

Stay tuned for breaking news on our bargaining unit contract progress (or lack there of) thanks to Office of Governor Ne...
