On May 26, 2026 at around approximately 5:17 PM, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch was contacted by Hancock County Dispatch requesting assistance with a pursuit coming into Ohio County. Hancock County Dispatch advised that a Silver Ford F-150 had rammed a Hancock County Deputy Cruiser and the driver a Mr. Cody Wedding had his ex-wife and child held hostage in the vehicle. The pursuit went through the community of Fordsville, and turned onto State Route 69 N, heading southbound towards the Dundee area. Sgt. Phelps deployed spike strips successfully on the vehicle in the 13600 Block of State Route 69 N. When attempting to avoid the spike strips the vehicle rammed another car with one occupant and then continued to flee. Deputies caught up to the vehicle and attempted to box the truck in, the male then rammed the back end of Sgt. Phelps Tahoe and then swerved into oncoming traffic where he hit Sheriff Wright’s cruiser head-on. The Ford Truck then left the roadway and became stuck in a ditch where he was swiftly taken into custody. Mr. Wedding was taken to the Ohio County Detention Center where he was charged with the following:

-OPER MTR VEHICLE U/INFL ALC/SUBS (189A.010)-2ND (AGG CIR)

-FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE, 1ST DEGREE (MOTOR VEHICLE)

-(3 COUNTS) CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, 1ST DEGREE

-RECKLESS DRIVING

-WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE

-(2 COUNTS) WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE- POLICE OFFICER

-KIDNAPPING-MINOR

-KIDNAPPING-ADULT

After a months-long investigation that began in January 2026, Clinton Allen of Beaver Dam was arrested and taken into custody without incident on 5/25/2026, on an Ohio County Indictment Warrant. They were lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on the following charges:

On May 15, 2026, deputies with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Brents Loop in Hartford, Kentucky, regarding possible criminal activity. Upon arrival, deputies conducted an investigation which led to the application for and ex*****on of a search warrant at the residence.

During the search, deputies located several handguns, an amount of suspected methamphetamine, ma*****na, and related drug paraphernalia. The following individuals were arrested and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center:

Dennie Dowell, age 63, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 3rd or greater offense (methamphetamine)
* Possession of ma*****na
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

Judith Shouse, age 52, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Tampering with physical evidence
* Possession of ma*****na
* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine)
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

William James, age 40, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine)
* Possession of drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

Shelly Shaffer, age 53, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 3rd or greater offense (methamphetamine)
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

Ms. Shaffer was also served with a parole violation warrant from the Kentucky Parole Board.

Robert Dunn, age 53, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine)
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

Tina Bradfield, age 42, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine)
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess

Jessica Derudder, age 44, of Hartford, Kentucky, was charged with:

* Possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine)
* Drug paraphernalia – buy/possess
* Failure to register address change with the Department of Transportation

Today, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to announce the passing of former Ohio County Sheriff Gene Gaither. Sheriff Gaither also proudly served for many years as Chief of Police for the Beaver Dam Police Department.

Sheriff Gaither dedicated his life not only to law enforcement and serving his community, but also to his family, whom he loved and adored deeply. His years of service, leadership, and commitment to protecting others will not be forgotten.

We ask the citizens of Ohio County, along with our surrounding counties and communities, to keep Sheriff Gaither’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

On May 9, 2026, at approximately 8:25 PM, deputies with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of US Highway 231 South and Fire Tower Loop in Beaver Dam. Upon conducting a probable cause search, deputies located an amount of suspected ma*****na, methamphetamine and an assortment of prescription narcotic medications on Ms. Rebecca Elliot, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Ms. Elliot was arrested without incident and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on the following charges:

• POSSESSION OF MA*****NA
• DRUG PARAPHERNALIA BUY/POSSESS
• POSS CONT SUB 1ST DEG 1ST OFF (METHAMPHETAMINE)
• POSS CONT SUB, 1ST DEG, 1ST OFF HYDROCODONE
• PRESCRIPTION CONT SUB NOT IN PROPER CONTAINER 1ST OFF
• POSS CONT SUB, 2ND DEGREE- DRUG UNSPECIFIED
• POSS CONT SUB, 3RD DEGREE- DRUG UNSPECIFIED

On May 6, 2026, at approximately 9:00 PM, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a home on Main Street in the community of Rockport.
During the search of the residence, deputies located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, ma*****na, and related drug paraphernalia.

Mr. Thomas Richie, age 35, of Central City, Kentucky, was arrested at the scene and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on the following charges:

* Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
* Possession of Ma*****na
* Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess

The investigation remains ongoing.

On 05-06-2026 around 7:00 AM, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an accident with injuries, in the 13000 block of US Highway 231 involving a school bus. The school bus had stopped and was picking up a child, when it was struck in the rear by a passenger vehicle. The female occupant of the passenger vehicle was taken to Owensboro Health Hospital for their injuries and the monitor on the school bus was taken to Ohio County with possible injuries. No children were injured in the crash. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by wreckers, and the investigation is still ongoing.
