Last Thursday, we gathered at The Estate in New Haven for our inaugural Great Wines, Greater Futures event, raising over $70,000 to support youth mentoring in Connecticut. Our guests enjoyed an exceptional wine tasting experience guided by world-renowned sommelier Kevin Zraly, and the heart of our mission came alive when Big Brother Alex Beck and Little Brother Mekhi McCorter took the stage to share their 13-year mentoring journey and the profound impact it has had on both of their lives.

“Kids are people too, and everybody deserves a voice,” said Little Brother Mekhi McCorter. “Meeting Alex changed the way I saw myself and my future. He helped me stop doubting myself and start believing I could become whoever I wanted to be.”

Our mentors from Cigna are showing up for kids at Annie Fisher School by helping with homework, doing art projects, playing games, and, most importantly, being the steady, encouraging presence every young person deserves. We shared that story with Renee Dinino on Great Day Connecticut, and we're very proud of every mentor who makes it happen. Big Brother Chris Montesi started mentoring Little Brother Dyson through our Community-Based program in 2022. For Chris, mentoring has been deeply meaningful. He had always hoped to have a little brother, and through his match with Dyson, that hope became real. Over time, their connection has grown beyond shared outings. Chris says this:

“I realize that mentorship is less about what I have to offer and more about helping him discover and become the best version of himself”.

➡️ If Chris's story resonates with you. There's a child in our community who would benefit from all you have to offer. Become a mentor at ctbigs.org

Spring is in full bloom, and so are our Bigs and Littles! A walk, a conversation, a moment to notice the world and smell the flowers. Mentoring doesn't have to be complicated. These simple, everyday moments are what help Littles feel seen, supported, and connected, and that can make all the difference 💚What's your favorite way to spend time with your Little this spring? Turning a passion into a future is one of the many amazing things a caring mentor can help a young person achieve. For Little Brother Qwanell, that passion is culinary arts. Since our team matched him with his Big Sister, Andrea Caldwell, in 2021, they have spent time together practicing his skills, creating dishes, and exploring his future.

Recently, Qwanell was accepted into the prestigious Johnson & Wales culinary program and visited the school for the first time, with Andrea by his side.➡️ Help a child reach their full potential. Become a mentor at ctbigs.org or contact us at [email protected]

On April 29th, we gathered in for an evening of music, connection, and meaningful conversations about the power of mentoring.

BBBSCT Board Members Paul Cestari and Regine Fiddler shared reflections on the mentors who have shaped their lives. For Paul, who also serves as a Big Brother in our program, the impact was especially personal. He was joined by his Little Brother, Evan, and his former Little, Jose, who is now an adult. Their story reflected the lasting impact that a consistent, caring adult can have on a child’s life, creating positive outcomes and memories that extend well beyond the program.

Every conversation helps raise awareness of the life-changing impact mentoring can have. If you couldn’t attend, there are still many ways to connect with us and learn how you can support our mission. Visit ctbigs.org for more details!
