4-H SUMMER ACTIVITIES -

Interested in Beekeeping?
Youth ages 12-18 have the opportunity to apply for their own beekeeping hive and supplies through the West Michigan Bee Club. Application details can be found here: https://www.westshorebeekeepers.org/Outreach/
The deadline to apply for your own hive is May 31st, so do not wait!

Saturday Science Shenanigans at Hart Area Library
Oceana County 4-H is partnering with Hart Area Library for a free family-focused outdoor science series this summer!
June 13th Underground Secrets at the Kids Zone at the National Asparagus Festival 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Shelby Kick Off to Summer Family Night – June 11th
Come spend the evening in Shelby and kick off summer fun with family activities at Getty Park! The Village of Shelby will host an outdoor BBQ beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by Movie in the Park at dusk. Oceana County 4-H will join the fun starting at 7:00 PM with:
A small petting zoo
A STEAM activity
A read aloud of the book Rabbityness

Families attending the 4-H event will receive a free copy of the book Rabbityness sponsored by West Shore ESD while supplies last.
Bring the family, enjoy the evening in the park, and stay for the movie at dusk!

Join a 4-H Club This Summer!
We still have openings in several Oceana County 4-H programs including:
Dog Club (meets every other Thursday in Hart)
Bee Keeping Club (meets Thursdays once a month in Pentwater)
Shooting Sports (meets every other Tuesday in Scottville)
Large Livestock Clubs
Small Livestock Clubs (Rabbits and Poultry)
Horse Clubs
Science (Select Saturdays at the Library)

Free Community Horse Event at the Oceana County Fairgrounds
July 9th at 7PM
Families are invited to a free horse-themed literacy event at the Oceana County Fairgrounds!
We will:
Read aloud Cowgirl Kate
Meet Oceana County 4-H horses
Learn fun facts about horses
Participate in horse-themed activities

Spitler Weekly Announcements
Week of May 24, 2026

4TH GRADE TRADE UP DAY
This Wednesday, all 4th graders and their teachers will be visiting Hart Middle School. During their visit, Principal Ackley will discuss building expectations. The 5th grade teachers will introduce homework expectations and share details about next year’s field trips. Students will also tour the cafeteria and review cafeteria procedures. Finally, Mrs. Zost will lead students on a tour of the 5th grade corridor.

REVISED HPS CALENDAR
The Michigan Legislature recently passed House Bill 5797, allowing school districts impacted by severe weather during the 2025-2026 school year to forgive up to four additional snow days. As a result, we are returning to our original last day of school schedule. The final day for students will be Tuesday, June 9th, which will be a half day for students and a PM Records Day for staff.

NED'S YO-YO SALE
Lil’ Pirates can purchase their very own yo-yo this week from Principal O. She will be in the conference room from 8:00-8:15 AM and 3:00-3:15 PM. This Thursday is the last day, so don’t delay! Yo-Yo options include the Classic Yo $10, Super Spinners $14, and Specialty Surprise $18.

BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS

DENTAL SEALANT UPDATE
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Dental Sealant Clinic originally scheduled for June 8-9, 2026, has been rescheduled to September 14-15, 2026. Students who were scheduled to participate in June will now be seen during the September clinic dates.

26-27 CLASS PLACEMENTS
Parental Input Forms for Student Placement are available in the office. These forms provide an opportunity for parents to share specific information regarding their child as a learner. Please remember, these forms are not for specific teacher requests. Forms will NOT be accepted after May 29th.
