CURRENT STATUS- Winter Storm Warning, Mercer County and Kentucky have currently declared a State of Emergency ahead of the storms, especially to help release funds for emergency needs, cleanup, etc.
WHAT WE KNOW- Weather models have wobbled north and south for several days as the weather service and local news weather departments have worked tirelessly to pinpoint who would be getting what out of this weather anomaly.
WHAT WE WILL SEE- Today (Saturday) will be mostly dry, powdery show starting after lunch at some point between 1 and 3. It can snow up to 1 inch per hour and will be snow into the night and early morning.
Tomorrow- At some point there will be a lull in the precipitation falling. In the day tomorrow it will transition into some type of freezing precipitation/sleet/ice. How much of that we will get, the answers are unclear, but leaning towards 2/10s of an inch. That is not horribly catastrophic for us, but still, the numbers can fluctuate. At some point it will all turn back to a very wet, heavy snow. That snow will fall up until early Monday morning.
All in all we may see anywhere from 8 to 10 to 15 inches of something. All the outlets are saying different, but just now we are getting something big... maybe not historic big, but big enough.
HAZARDS- Roads will become extremely hazardous and impassable. There will become a point where only high clearance 4 wheel drive trucks will be able to travel, and it will be difficult for even them. Tree lines may break and fall with higher amounts of ice accumulation. Power lines may be down, either from the weight of heavier ice, or from tree limbs falling. Do not approach power lines. Please be extremely cautious with candles or alternative heat sources in your house, especially if your power goes out.
EMERGENCY PLANS- Emergency services here in the county are all making plans to alter their response guidelines to better equip themselves to respond to emergencies in the snow. Please understand if you need emergency help we will all make every effort to help you, but response times will be expanded due to the catastrophic conditions of city and county roads. The snow and sleet will fall faster than road crews can keep it all cleared.
WHAT YOU CAN DO- Stay home the next few days if you can. Most churches have already cancelled. Most stores and restaurants may not be open. Keep plenty of water, foot, and candles in your house. If you mush travel, keep water and snacks and a flashlight in your car as well as a way to call for help (your phone).
MOVING FORWARD- Trust whatever news source or weather outlet you want. Stay up to date. We will only post updates if needed. You have been hearing about it for a week, so there isn't much more we can add. Be safe. We will see you on the other side of it.
