Welcome to Burrillville's two newest Officers, Samuel Asmah and Thomas Hammann. May 9, 2026, Community Awareness: Woonsocket Police Department Copswalk

The Woonsocket Police Department Copswalk is a long-running awareness and fundraising journey honoring fallen law enforcement officers and supporting their families through Concerns of Police Survivors.
Started in 2001 The Copswalk sends a team of Woonsocket police officers on a round-the-clock relay from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. The goal is to raise awareness of the sacrifices made by officers and their families, spark conversations with the public, and raise funds for survivor support of the New England Concerns of Police Survivors,
The walk is a multi-day, relay-style journey of about 450 miles, typically taking 3–4 days. Officers are divided into rotation groups of three. One officer walks or runs, one follows in a safety cruiser with emergency lights, and one serves as navigator. Each participant completes a 4-mile leg, and each group covers 12 miles before handing off to the next rotation. The journey continues day and night, except during severe weather, hazardous conditions, or limited areas where walking is not permitted by traffic regulations.
Should you see someone running ahead of a Woonsocket Police cruiser through town, it is likely part of the Copswalk mission to honor fallen officers, support surviving families, and raise awareness of the sacrifices made by law enforcement.
